These new shoes from Discipline are made from lightweight and comfortable suede and have been lined with soft cotton. The sides of the shoe are perforated to provide excellent ventilation to keep your feet feeling dry and cool. The shoes are durable enough to use in Pilates but stylish enough to be worn casually. They are available in three colors and are the perfect match for nearly any outfit. The Z strap closure is faster to fasten than traditional laces and provides a secure and snug fit without being too tight or reducing circulation.

When I took taekwondo, I didn't need to wear shoes for the class, so when I switched to a different style and shoes were required, I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing my usual tennis shoes. I got these in the mail a full week early, and they are so incredibly light. Today in class, I forgot I was wearing them! I am really pleased with these shoes, though I would have preferred them in black. Permalink

These are the most comfortable shoes EVER! Barefoot indeed; lightweight yet cushioned, I wish they had more colors in my size. I bought these to practice tai chi and tae kwon do, and I highly recommend these shoes for any activity. Also note, they are true to size, unlike some other martial arts shoes. Permalink

How are these shoes when it comes to pivoting on kicks? Do they turn easily or is there grip on the floor/mat? Permalink

Tapered Hardwood Bo
A. Hey Jimmy - tapered bos are generally considered better for spinning. The taper makes the ends light and places the center of gravity more dominantly in the middle. Non-tapered bos are considered better for application and bunkai (meaning they can take better beatings because they are thicker). Of course, that is also relevant to wood type. If you want something specific for competitions, taper might be the way to go. If you intend to pursue bunkai and kobudo kumite, go with non-taper.

A. This comes in a pair (two)

Fighting Bo
A. Hey Money - this bo is designed for performance and practice. Ash is a light wood and the taper makes it even lighter. However, this bo will not stand up to repeated abuse through hard contact. You could use it for protection, but it is not ideal for that.

These shoes do put an emphasis on grip. Pivoting is certainly possible but you might find it a bit more difficult than when barefoot.
