wear them daily

I wear these kung fu shoes every day for all kinds of use. They are great for quick slip on and off and provide good protection from various rocks and pebbles you might encounter while walkingaround. During training they can come off during kicks or sparring, so it is important to keep that in mind when deciding when you want to wear them in the school.

My favorite shoes

While I mostly go barefoot nowadays, these are my favorite shoes: they fit in my pocket, look great, and keep my toes warm. They are the same kind of shoes I used to live in when I was young.
Delivery was quick and uneventful --thanks for making these available!

Cheap but good

The cool thing about them is that they actually fit my feet. I have fairly short and broad feet, and I wear a 10 and a half. So I figured I'd get a 10 since they are a stretchy material. The surface is flexible enough for you to be able to move pretty much unimpeded. It has a pretty good grip so you can use them on pretty much any surface. They're pretty quiet if you move right. Over all, a great martial arts shoe... however...

My only complaints are

1) that the entire shoe is made of roughly the same stretchy elastic-polyester material. This makes the heel act funny, because your foot doesn't settle all the way to the back of the rubber sole, it gets pushed forward by the elastic material.

2) the opening for your foot is just small enough to be a pain to put on, and just big enough to slip when you move too much.

Both of these could really be because of the size of my feet, which is kind of akward. So aside from issues due to proportion (which is always an issue on factory footwear, or clothes of any kind), these are GREAT shoes.

For a fair comparison, I also bought the cotton soled shoes. The cotton soled shoes are actually a little less flexible, due to the thickness of the soles (which are layered cotton, so it's pretty much like walking on a laminate of fibers). The shoe itself is more or less the same, but the proportions are a little different. The shoe is longer and thinner, so people like me with hobbit feet end up having a big pointy empty spot at the end of the shoe. The soles are very slick, so they are dangerous on slippery surfaces like wood or tile.
All in all, I like the rubber soled ones better, but the cotton soled ones are also quite good. At the price, if they wear out (which they will after a month of solid practice) you just replace them at their nice cheap price. If you feel like you are going to be doing a lot of practicing you might stockpile them, as the shipping would be cheaper. But try them out first before you commit to them (2.95 shipping is a good chance to try things).

These have a bit of stretch so you could wear 9 comfortably. If your feet are on the wider side it might be smart to bump up to 10.

Ok For Price I Paid

Well the quality is ok. The outside is a thin material and the inside is padded thin. The bottom is very durable and I can't complain about that. I like that they are nice and light and great to walk around in around the house and outside. I would have given it a 5 star, but didn't because a week after I bought them the inside cushion started to come apart in the front by the toes. If it was sewn on better it could be more durable and it wouldn't have that problem. Other than that, I'm real happy with the product and the price. I actually bought 2 pairs just in case they stop selling them. It's a good buy for the price.

Shoe length

I have an old worn out pair of cotton soled shoes of this type. They have 10 marked on the bottom and have a sole length of 10 11/16". What is the matching size in both the cotton and rubber sole versions?

As far as I can tell Red you would want to get a size 10 in both the cotton and rubber soled versions, just like your old pair (these haven't changed in design for many years).

Hey Akuni. Yes, regular socks work fine with these shoes. If you want to get fancy you can wear tabi style socks, but it's not necessary. The tabi can be found here: wp-ni-15.

Are there half sizes?

Are these shoes made in half sizes? In the past I've purchased the cotton sole shoes in a 10.5 from another vendor and were a good fit. If half sizes are not available, would I opt for an 11 American size?

Hey NP. I have seen the half sizes in existence, but our supplier tends to stick with the primary sizes. That being the case, 11 would be the most comfortable although they might be a bit loose if you intend to do kicking with them on.

I finally got these since I'm on my feet more nowadays. I ordered a size 11 but they aren't as comfortable as the 10.5 cotton soles I've worn in the past. They have a narrow fit right by the toe knuckles but feel loose near the heel. I will say though these look like they will last more than one summer which is great but a size 12 might have been better. I'll see how these fare after extensive use.

Shoes of doom

I bought these primarily due to my continual slippage on our dojo mats. I figured hey, they beat water socks. I'm impressed by the durability for such a low cost, I expected something that would last maybe a week. Thankfully I was wrong. These things not only help me with keeping my footing, but are also good for pressure point manipulation. I won't go into detail on that, but they are grand. Buy some of these and try them out for yourself.

comfy shoes

Received the shoes in no time. Great price. They are very comfortable. I first bought this type in '89 when my shoes were stolen in Naples, Italy. I needed shoes quick and inexpensive ( my money was also taken ) and I found this type. I bought them and liked them. I decided to wear them for the rest of my stay in Europe.

Lghtweight and comfortable

Reasonably priced, fast shipping, lightweight and comfortable. These shoes are good for tai chi or as casual slippers, but not sure they are well suited for kung fu activities. I atually prefer the cotton sole version instead of these hard soles, but no complaints at all. For the price, these are very comfortable tai chi shoes.

want a good fit

My shoe size is 43 European, which is about 9.5 American. I read many review, am wondering if size 8 is too small for training purpose. I read that they come off, but I do not want my feet to be too big. would you recommend 8 or 9. Excited to get pair of these soon!

Which Sole for Polished Concrete Floors?

I work at Lowes and want to try a pair of these as an alternative to my Vibrams. I have been wearing a pair of Feiyues, and while very comfortable have not held up too well. Within a few months they have torn between the "treads". Would the cotton soles be slick ok polished concrete floors? Would they wear out very quickly? I walk easily 5 plus miles a day at work.

Training

I just have one question...Do they actually stay on during practice i.e. hitting and kicking heavy bags and such? Also how long would they last from training?

There is some potential for them to come off during training. They aren't secured via any sort of lace so they can work themselves loose.

As for longevity, they are pretty durable but not designed specifically for extended contact training.

Satisfied

I received shoes today and I must say they are a bit snugged and I could potentially say it's my fault but they feel great and they look great! Great place to get these cheap things and if you get the correct size damn great fit even with the smaller size. I'm hoping that I may stretch these bit. I would say get your size or a size smaller u defiantly a size smaller. If I don't fee; a slight stretch in my shoes I may go to my actual size 11 instead of 10. Don't worry I'm a hard critic and I love these damn things and they so cheap. 5 stars their is nothing wrong with the shoe at all.. expect to hear from me again.

I Ordered

I just ordered me a pair and I did so much research.. I notice more good reviews that bad. This could come from people not simply knowing their shoe size or manufacturers fault. I do believe that since my feet are between a size 10.5 and 11.0, 11 leaving some toe space that I may need a 10 in these shoes since their slip on's and they need to be snug with no heel room. Especially since my feet are long and narrow. So I will try these shoes out when they get here and I expect good reviews I think I thought about the size logically I measured my feet and everything. Now when I'm on campus and some thugs try to jump me in the alley with these shoes I can take at least 7 or more at once!!!.

I'm very pleased with my kung fu shoes. As others have said, definitely order a size down as they run large. I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and I ordered the 7. It's still a tiny bit roomy towards the heel but I have a narrow foot towards the back. If you want them to be extra tight I'd say order two sizes down but in most cases ordering one size down will do the trick. They are very comfortable and very flexible, it's almost like you're not wearing a shoe at all. The sole is nice and grippy, perfect for training. Big thumbs up!

Sole Thickness

I ordered a pair of these a while back and one of the soles is thicker than the other. It is very obvious; maybe like a whole new run of soles where one got mixed up with another. (?) Anyway, is it possible to order another pair and send these back? I threw away all the paperwork so I never persued it, but I wish I had because I have never worn these now.

They're OK, but I didn't expect much

I was not expecting much from these because of the price and I got what I paid for. They function Ok for walking around and maybe doing kata. The inside lining on one of them tore during the first week of light use. As one reviewer said, not so good for sparring as they slip off pretty easy. Also, the edge of the rigid sole could leave a pretty nasty bruise if kicked by someone wearing these. I'll probably use them for lifting weights outdoors and in the basement. They'll be good for that since they don't have any support or cushioning.

Shrinking?

If you ordered a size under your normal shoe size, yet they still fit sort of loose, is there a way to shrink them? Maybe through washing or something?

They stay on pretty well if I wear two pairs of socks, but I wanted to know if there was a way of shrinking them in general.

Thanks

I love these!

I got a pair to see about wearing them at work, where I'm not allowed to wear my minimalist Vibram's. I wear a 10-wide (4E), and I ordered the 10. When I first put them on I thought perhaps they would be too tight, but a few minutes of walking around and they were unbelievably comfortable. I won't wear them at work, though, as with socks they are still too tight, so my next pair is the next size up. I may go with cotton sole, though, as they are far from silent, and I prefer to move quietly at all times, work and otherwise. And very quick delivery! A !

You're looking at about a mens size 4. The width shouldnt be a problem because the material used is so flexible. At this moment we are out of size 4 in the plastic sole, but do have it in the cotton sole: cl-sh-29.

Love them!

I just got them today (almost a week early... KarateDepot is awesome!), and I'm wearing them now as I type this review!

They are very comfortable and fit very snug. I ordered a size under my shoe size, so they won't slip off.

I bought them because Bruce Lee (my idol!) wears something similar in his movies, and Fei Long from the Street Fighter video games wears them also. I'm so happy to finally have a pair.

Quite Nice

These shoes arrived within a couple days. They're ridiculously comfortable.
Just a heads up to the women out there about sizing. I was always told that a mens are two full sizes below womens. I'm a size 7 in womens and usually a size 5 in mens. So I decided to order the 5. They fit perfectly. So, I'd suggest two sizes smaller.

does anybody know the ratio of the sizes? becuse i wear a size 10 and i was wondering if i should get a bigger or a smaller size and i mostly practice outside in sand but can the soles handle this and,or rougher surfaces i.e(wood, concrete, trees) cuz i have to run around sometimes too and i like to climb trees and i dont want them to rip?

Hey paul. The sizes run pretty true to regular shoe size. If you wear a 10, I would order 10.

The soles can handle sand and outdoor surfaces like wood and concrete. Although the plastic can be slick so they might hinder your ability to climb trees.

How do these sizes run? I'm a 9 and a half, do I get a 9 or a 10?

Go with the 9, it will fit snugly and comfortably.

They're Great!!!

I went to my cousins house and he took out a box. He opened it and I saw the great shoes. The grip is great on them along with the look. Very comfortable!

if you were deciding on what to get, would you get these or the cotton ones?

Deciding on what to get.

It depends what characteristics you desire more. These hard rubber soles are very durable and better for outdoor use. However they can be slick on smooth surfaces and make a clacking noise on hard surfaces.

The cotton sole is much quieter and better for indoor use, but wears down quicker with abuse.

Happy Customer

I found these shoes perfect for three uses...Bag Training outside on rouch concrete, house shoes and quick slip ons to take trash out. But what I most liked was the pricing from Karate Depot with $2.95 shipping. Product shipped on Tuesday and arrived on Friday. Peace in Christ

OK for casual use

These are quite comfortable, minimal shoes that slip on easily--just the thing for lounging around indoors. The hard rubber soles do not have very good traction, so they are not a good choice for martial arts training. And if you want shoes that will provide protection for your feet outdoors, these shoes are too minimal to do that well (not recommended for hiking, etc.) The low price and comfort make them good casual, indoor shoes.

Good product, nice price

Very nice outdoor, not so indoors depending on floors. Cotton sole version is much nicer indoors, thou.

These shoes are ok for outdoor use, although they can get a little bogged down if the tops are exposed to moisture.

I love these shoes wore them everyday since I got them, Only problem is that I guess the wing chun stance training made the sole on the inside rip out and now its barely attached. While they lasted a good month of wearing they eventually just fall apart. I guess you get what you pay for.

What's the difference between Kung Fu Shoes and Rubber Sole Ninja Slippers?

These kung fu shoes here have a plastic sole, which serve a different purpose. The plastic sole is durable and inexpensive (hence the low price), however it is not at all quiet. In fact it is noisy on some surfaces. If you need stealth for ninjutsu training, go with the rubber or cotton sole.

shipping is cheap which helps make up for it. Would anyone be interested in discounted pricing based on quantity? With discounted pricing based on quantity the price would be cheaper if you purchased say 5 pairs at a time.

order larger for wide feet!

got the shoes for tai chi, and found the normal size 46 didn't fit my fat 13 size american feet! I called the number and was quickly set a new (size 47) pair free of charge. the one size made a world of difference! now I'm not getting fabric burns on my toes.

I wish I had read your review before I bought. I have 11 wide feet, and the 11 they sent are VERY skinny. I second the review that, if you have wide feet, you might want to consider 1 or 2 sizes larger for your comfort.

I have been wearing this style of shoe, mostly for the comfortability and old style training for many years. Back in the day when I fought full contact, with little protective gear in Hawaii, you ended up kicking them off. Usually they would slip off or someone would step on them. Great to wear around the Dojo or Kwoon.
Run on a gravel road with them and toughen your feet.

The sole does have an unusual smell to them that was not there in the older shoes I have bought over the last 20 years. I set them out in the sun for a couple of days and smell is not foul as it was before. Other than that it is a shoe that we used to wear in Kempo and some Chinese Martial Arts I studied through the years.

I am sorry having to say this.
These shoes disappointed me.

The sole is of a particularly HEAVY plastic.
The inside of the sole has serious pimples left over from the cast. The borders are higher and sharp too.
The fabric padding is absolutely lacking to cover these.

You could rip out the insole and rasp that away and craft a new insole ...but it's not worth the effort,
you still have a shoe which is too heavy.

I like. I opted for the plastic sole jobbies. There was the smell many people talk about, but I did not find it objectionable. I find the traction good, and hardly notice that Im wearing a shoe. I wear 9 and 1/2; and ordered 9, rightly or wrongly? They feel a little snug at the toe, but so far no problem as the material is stretchy. Am curious about the size 10, but I fear they maybe too large. I wish that they came in half sizes. Without socks a get lateral play at the heel. With socks they fit like a second skin, or a part of my foot. They are lighter and take up less room in my backpack then previous shoes. I am considering wearing them when traveling as they are more airport friendly than my cowboy boots.

These are almost as comfortable as the cotton soled ones and have become my regular casual shoes. The only downside is the smell of the sole - yuck. I expected this (from the reviews) and plan to buy more after these wear out. Until the smell dies down, I keep them on the porch. You just can't beat the combination of comfort and price. One more thing - the plastic is a bit hard, but softens a bit with use and scuffing.

I am very impressed with these shoes. They are very light and comfortable. I'm an 11 wide and I usually wear 12's, but I bought 11's because I didn't want them to be loose at all. I've had them for a few days and they fit great. They do smell funny and I had to scuff the soles a little, because they were really slippery on my hardwood floors. I love them. I don't actively practice any martial arts; I do mostly bodyweight calisthenics (Matt Furey's Combat Conditioning) and some of the stretching and conditioning I remember from my old Isshinryu Karate class I took in college. I can't find a better shoe for what I do.

Great Kung fu shoe!!!!!!!

These shoes are awesome! Grippy comfy and of course as with all of KDs stuff, I got them a day and a half after the order!! I recommend the rubber ones for practicing on hard surfaces, cotton soles for mats or pads. I cant say enough about them!! They run wide so round down if you are in the middle of two sizes. Just a great shoe even for lounging around or just wearing to class.

This is a very good shoe and its very light. It has much grip you can move a lot with it. The only think is it just smells bad at first, but it wear off.

Great shoes. Very comfy. But MAN do they smell

These are very lightweight and comfortable. The rubber still has the petroleum smell and it took a washing to make them smell better. The washing made them a little floppy, but they still are a great deal. That said, they are what they are.

I am buying 10 pair today, just so I am stocked up for the winter.

Comfy and durable!

These are great kung fu shoes, perfect for tai chi too. Plus, with the rubber soles, they don't slip on the kitchen floor when you're sneaking some leftover lo mein! The ONLY downside is the weird smell the rubber soles have when you first buy the shoes--but it goes away very quickly. A great value.

ONE MORE THING before you buy.

I love the shoes and appretiate the service that karatedepot has provided.
Before you purchase you should take into mind your shoes size. If you generally wear size 10 1/2 and do not have skiny feet, then size 10 should go well with you. But should you be in between size 10 and 10 1/2 and have skiny feet you should go with karatedepot's size 9. If you doubt what you should wear, go smaller then.
With this said, enjoy your shoes. I enjoy mine.

Very comfortable

These shoes are very comfortable. I wear them a lot around the house and obviously when I am training. The outside of the shoe (except the bottom) and the inside is made out of cotton. The bottom is made from a rubber-plastic material. Overall, these shoes are great.

Good Shoes

Very good quality. Excellent grip for the ground and very light. I give it three stars because they aren't the ''perfect fit.'' I ordered the appropriate size but, they still would not fit properly. Other than that, they should be excellent for practice.
