This cage in conjunction with the warrior head gear is what I have used for the past 3 years. It has helped keep me from facial injuries due to misplaced kicks. The combo has been rugged and has stood the test of time. It is designed very well and visibility is very good. I have had extensive nose surgery and do not have any cartilage in the nose. This is result of injuries prior to martial arts training. I am now currently looking at the plastic face guard or the foam padded model with the foam padded bar across the nose. I think this is great gear but due to a lot of criticism, I feel maybe its best use is in weapons training.

Below are a few of the things that are negative.

1. Some opponents are concerned about hurting their feet. No one that I have sparred has received a serious injury. There have only been a couple that have hit it hard enough to even feel a sting. Most people look at it and think broken toes but the truth of the matter is that if it is hit that hard, it mashes against the face and the head gear usually pops loose or off. This is not a big problem because it still does its job of lessening the blow to one area of the face by distributing the force more evenly.

2. Most competitions will not allow it's use. They feel it is unfair even though face contact is ''not allowed'' in most traditional type tournaments.

3. It is a little heavy and takes getting used to.
