      After receiving my chest protector I quickly learned that the sizing of the product seems to run small as it was hard to put over my head (my head isn't THAT big!!!) because of the automatic adjuster on the back side. Go a size larger if you think you are in the middle or end of the suggested size/chart.

      Chest Protection

      Good, but not great. It feels a bit small from the sizes given.

      Sizing may be off , May have to order the next size up.
      For younger children may be good but once ones child is in the teens where punches and kicks are more intense and specified , would recommend getting a chest protector which is not as stiff and thin. Can be akin to placing a thick cardboard around the body.
      This should not be used for heavy sparring, most likely for practice training purpose .
      Tournament Hogu much better if one s child is going to spar.

      length measurement???

      Does the length measurement include the area which covers the groin area?

      Not really mpike, you generally measure to about the belt area when sizing this item.

      sparring gear

      I purchased a Hogu chest protector and sparring gear from Karate depot for my son, and he loves it. the quality is better than the one offered by my sons studio, and the sparring gear is just as good if not better for a much more reasonable cost!

      How much does this weigh? Is it hot to use when sparring? I don't suppose it breathes at all.

      Hey Ryan. I don't have an exact weight measurement, but I can tell you that it is fairly lightweight material. That being said, it is not particularly breathable and can add some heat.

      Great Chest Protector...Careful, runs small!!

      We purchased this for our 12 year old son who is smaller than most 12 year olds and based on the sizing chart we were suppose to get an x-small. Unfortunately, it runs extremely small and we actually ended up exchanging it for a medium which worked a little better. Overall, great protector and price!

      If you wear a Size 4 or 5 Gi

      Get the XL. I got the large and it came as a 4 and it was very tight and very uncomfortable. I have a 44 chest and I figured since it goes up to 48 it would be fine; I have worn other chest protectors that fit fine as a large. But, for the most part if you're running high end on the chart go up a size. Also, rolling with this thing on is a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than stand up sparring.

      Wonderful Protection

      My son is in his second year of karate and I wanted him to have his own chest protector. This is the one that his teacher uses. It's great. It does it's job. A good deal also.

      I have never worn one and am new to karate but have been asked if I would like to do some sparring so I need to be ready and want to order a set. How do I correctly measure for the Hogu? Thanks

      Hey Steve - specific measuring dimensions can be found at the bottom of the page. In general though if you wear a size 4 gi go with the medium, if you wear a 5-6 go with the large.

      EASY TO PUT ON AND TAKE OFF! ONE TIE!

      This is perfect for someone who spars alot. Slip over-head & arms, tie, then you're ready to go. Amazingly light and comfortable. I recommend this to anyone. GREAT PRICE for what you get in return.

      This hogu is a tad small but it is convenient to be able to tie it yourself. After 5 years, the vinyl starts to disintegrate and you are covered in white bits when you take it off. I haven't seen this happen to OLDER hogus so I the material doesn't last as long. However, for the price, it's worth it.

      Sizing Info
      Tips for Proper Fit: Width measurement is the length of the Hogu Chest from left to right. The sides of the Hogu should wrap and hug your sides and the back remains open. Length of the hogu measures from the top, by the shoulder. Circumference Range gives you an idea of how much the back straps will expand to accomodate the open back.
