Sparring Gear Set

Is it possible to purchase the 4 pc sparring set in different colors. If I needed a blue or white helmet, would I be able to get the rest of set in red? Permalink

I've never seen someone do that before. What's the reason for it?

You can buy the pieces individually, but the set isn't available in mixed colors.

Tapered Hardwood Bo
A. Hey Jimmy - tapered bos are generally considered better for spinning. The taper makes the ends light and places the center of gravity more dominantly in the middle. Non-tapered bos are considered better for application and bunkai (meaning they can take better beatings because they are thicker). Of course, that is also relevant to wood type. If you want something specific for competitions, taper might be the way to go. If you intend to pursue bunkai and kobudo kumite, go with non-taper.

Rubber Foam Tonfa
A. This comes in a pair (two)

Fighting Bo
A. Hey Money - this bo is designed for performance and practice. Ash is a light wood and the taper makes it even lighter. However, this bo will not stand up to repeated abuse through hard contact. You could use it for protection, but it is not ideal for that.

my favorite

I've had a few different kinds of headgear in the past and this has been my favorite by far. The quality of the padding really protects the head, and the ear slots are very comfortable. After about 2 years I have not had any problems with cracking or strap stretching. Permalink

Sizing Info

Measure the circumference of the head at about an inch above the eyebrows to determine your proper headgear size. It's easy! Wrap a string around your head and measure the string.
