Durable gloves that provide good protection both for you and your sparring partner and also still allow an excellent range of motion for grappling,trapping etc..Also did I mention they're affordable?! Permalink

These gloves are nicely constructed with solid materials and a tight hold around the hand and wrists. But there is surprisingly thin padding! Your opponents better be wary of eating your punches. Plus, there's almost nothing protecting the wrist area. These gloves would definitely have rated higher if it was more thickly padded. Idea for light- to medium-sparring matches that involve trapping, grappling or clutching. Permalink

I bought this pair of gloves for sparring and grappling but I found them good enough to use on a heavy bag, too. I was surprised by their excellent quality, especially considering how much they cost. My sparring partners are happy with the thick front padding and I feel my wrists are free to apply swift chin'nas and mantis locks. I also apply Eagle Claw grabs and the finger openings are really comfortable and flexible. The material is very breathable and it proved itself very durable too [ I waited about 5 months before writing this review, as usually I destroy everything with in the third month of use]. I had to return these gloves, as the back-of-wrist padding is far too thin to protect me in TKD sparring. The padding is only 1/8 inch thick! My instructor told me these gloves were designed for use in grappling arts like Hapkido, as the open-finger design allows you to grab, and the thin wrist padding allows the wrist to flex in ways that standard sparring gear doesn't allow. For the grappling arts, these gloves look excellent, but be wary of the thin wrist padding if you're in a more aggressive, punching-and-blocking sport. Permalink

These gloves are great, the only thing I really had to look into was sizing... The combination of small/medium sizes in one glove was a little bit confusing. My palm is 3-1/2 inches across, and the small/medium gloves fit just like they should. They look as great as they feel, which is amazing considering the lining is so soft.
The only slight drawback is that the padding from your wrist down is a little thin. Don't get me wrong, there's still padding there, but you could get a couple uncomfortable shots if you're hit pretty hard. Permalink

These gloves feature a thick (over 1''), multi-layered pad on the front--with which I'm extremely pleased--but rather little padding elsewhere. Open-palm design ventilates well and allows forming a tight fist around the palm pad, which some other gloves do not. Inside lining is cloth--very comfortable, but mine become damp after several sparring rounds.

While I can't speak to the smaller make, the finger holes on the L/XL size are about an inch wide. My 4-inch palm looks small inside the glove, which would accomodate the largest hands I've seen. Still, the gloves fit snuggly, and the large front profile performs quite a lot like a boxing glove.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this glove: it offers good coverage and serious padding on the front where I need it. The gloves fit confortably despite being on the XL side of L/XL. The Gladiators offer a solid alternative to those unsatisfied with the more common wrap-around-the-back punch design. Permalink
