      These shin guards from Combat Sports international have the same cut as their other extremely popular shin and instep guards but they have an added gel insert in the front to absorb and eliminate impacts. The striking surface of the guard is made entirely of leather and filled with foam and gel. the back of the guard is made from neoprene that will guarantee a secure and comfortable fen even durin intense mat scrabmles. these guard provide exceptional protection and comfort.

    Sizing

    I am 6'3". I'm worried that a large won't fit. I have about a 7 in instep (12ft shoes). Just below the knee to the top of the instep is 17in.

    Also, how does this compare to the Top Contenders?

    Yes large should be fine for you. The quality is comparable in general to top contender, but this particular model is very high quality.

    Great Protection

    These shin guards have provided great protection. They don't move at all and I don't every need to adjust them in between sparring sessions. Make sure you take them out of you bag after training and hang them up; the neoprene does get drenched and mine started to get a funky fuzz on them. My only complaint is the velcro strap on the top is utterly useless, the neoprene is tight enough without it.
