While I highly doubt that the one I received was red oak (maybe pine or ash), its nice that is not nearly as heavy since the extended length compared to chux makes it heavier in the swing. the cord is terrible as mentioned in others review, but after restringing it with military para cord it becomes a good starter. I wouldn't ever think of getting these if your very experience b/c its too cheap but if want to pick these up and learn get this good affordable pair.

Good little set of chux. Not the fastest, as the name would imply, but the chux are great for training. Many people don't realize that unless your performing an alternative baton twirling (xma), that your Nunchaku are to gripped at the base for maximum striking force. These chux are great for training in that area. The reduced size exchanges the upper part of the handle for more chain. My only complaint would be that they are a little light for my taste, but I prefer the acrylic or solid aluminum pairs if I'm using chain, so that's just personal preference. Not a starter pair, but if you've trained to the point that you've already got you first pair of chained and first pair of corded, then I highly recommend.

I received a replacement sword courtesy of karate depot, who even paid for my return shipping. my new sword is definitely an improvement. though I have not had a chance to practice with it, I can already tell that it is not only more balanced, but, more importantly, much straighter. not perfect blade but flaws so minor, only those familiar with artisan crafted blades will know to look for. I imagine the handle situation will arise again, but I plan in re-tacking my handle anyway, so not a big deal. if you want a first sword to migrate from a bokken, I highly recommend, but only for learning the feel of having a blade, as opposed to broad wood. not for cutting practice or sparring (most definitely not actual combat) this is a good buy for the money, but read the title as 'students, first sword'.

This is not only great for warming up and getting the blood flowing, but i use this balm for ever injury except open wounds. If you put this on at night there will be no pain the next day. This is also great for the pre- iron palm training and ki building exercises.
