Filling with Sand: Tiny Hole

Does anyone have a recommended practice for filling the base with sand? The base has such a tiny hole it seems that it would be a tedious endeavor to fill it with 120-160 pounds of sand. Also - how much sand should fit in a Wavemaster Century?

Hey Mark. I would probably recommend running a short hose from the basin hole to someplace you don't mind getting a little sandy (over a sink or something like that). I would also use a funnel on the other end of the hose, or just straight into the basin. As for how much sand the basin can handle, I've never actually taken it to the max so I'm not certain.

Can it be used outside.

Can this bag be used outside if it get's covered to protect from direct sunlight? We do not have room in the house and my son really wants a punching bag for karate training.

Hi Andi. Yes I you could place this bag outside. Covering it would help increase it's life expectancy, although any time you subject a bag to the elements it won't last quite as long as in a temperature controlled environment.

One important tip - fill the basin with sand instead of water. If you fill it with water it will freeze during cold temperatures and potentially crack the basin.

wavemaster punching bag

How much sand should I put in the base of the wavemaster to makesure it doesn't fall when I punch it, or rock back and forth?

Hey Mo8. That's going to depend a lot on how hard you are hitting and what kind of techniques you are using. Fill it up half way, see how that works for you, and adjust from there.

Punching

Is this bag mainly just for kicking? I'm 6ft and am wondering if it works as a punching bag as well.

This bag works well for both punching and kicking. It has multiple levels of height adjustment so no matter how tall you are it can accommodate.

Will it work for my kids?

I have 2 boys, 8 and 4, both on the tall side. They have successfully destroyed 2 of the kids punching bags during frequent, but normal use. So, I want to move up a step. I'm concerned that the base on this is so large, they (especially the 4 yr old) won't be able to get get close enough to work the bag. Any thoughts?

Jay - this wavemaster is a great item that will be able to withstand your kids abuse. The 8 year old will definitely not have any problems with using it.

The 4 year old may experience a little stretching in order to punch or kick. One interesting solution for that is grabbing two bungie chords or duct tape, two pillows stacked on each other, and wrapping them around the bottom of the bag. This will create more surface area that extends past the bottom of the stand. You can do this with a comforter type blanket as well.

Once he grows up a little you'll have the bag for years of training.

wavemaster century XXL training bag

Does either sand or water create more weight in the base or is it the same either way?

Generally speaking sand will create more weight for you. It is also less prone to swishing back and forth as you hit the bag. That being said, water is much more convenient in the fill-up/dump-out process. So be sure to consider both of those factors!

lifetime guarantee

I have the Wavemaster "the portable punching bag" with a lifetime guarantee and the bag portion is falling apart. Will they replace it?

They switched from a lifetime warranty to a one year warranty a long time ago. How old is the bag?
Anyway, a lifetime warranty is a lifetime warranty and I expect they will honor it. Contact them at 1-800-626-2787. Expect them to ask for a copy of the original receipt.

A great punching bag

This bag is very similar to the Century Wavemaster Powerline, only a bit lighter and not as big. One of the interesting features of this punching bag is you can adjust how high of an area your kick is. The area of which you kick is very easy on your feet and you could kick it barefoot. I think standing bags are the best bags for martial arts because they don't swing around as much as a bag hung on a chain.

Rock and falls down

I found the Wavemaster to rock a lot when hit hard and to fall down when hit with full force. This bag is good for practicing light punches and kicks, but the constant rocking and moving gets old after a while.

Tall and heavy enough for me

I stand 6'1 and this is the first free standing bag that I don't have to drop into a horse stance to hit. I've had this bag for about a week now and I'm totally pleased with it! Loaded it with 240lbs. of sand on day 1 and it's taking everything I can deliver. I'd recommend this punching bag to anyone who needs to train in a space limited area!

I just purchased the WAVEMASTER, even though it's adjustable for differen't hight's doesn't deter me from practicing in a "LOW SQUARE HORSE STANCE"..

GREAT Low Cost Option!

The Wavemaster has lighter padding than the bags that we use at the Dojo, BUT it is an *excellent* at-home option - it is nicely weighted, has good quality padding, and is very adjustable. I think that other bags at twice the price might be nicer, but this one is TOTALLY worth what you're paying for it! GREAT bag for the money!

Outstanding Product

I have used other standing bags before and they end of falling apart. The wavemaster is durable and easy to fill and empty. I prefer the sand method over the water.
