How are these for sparring use? Our current location is on cement and I would like to get something we can spar on that will soften falls. I read they slip a little, if we were to add a no slip mat for carpets would this stop any movement?

These are good for sparring use. The texture takes a few rounds to get used to but after that it's all good.

These will shift slightly on smooth concrete so a no slip mat might be a nice idea.

our dojang uses them on a carpeted floor, but I have used them on a hard floor. anti skid mats are a good idea, depending on how many of these you are using. if you use a lot the mass of the matts together should prevent skidding on their own

    Great investment

I have had my puzzle mats for years, super durable, easy to setup and pick up. My mats have been hit by rain, cold, sun and are still going strong, great investment.

Hi BZkarate. I don't know what WKF regulations require, but I do know these jigsaw mats are the standard size most schools purchase.

What is the surface made out of? Is it suitable for practicing turns and spinning kicks?

The material is a high density foam. Turning and spinning on them is no problem once you get used to the material, however I would advise caution at first. When you first buy them they have full "grippiness" which wears in after a month or two. If you or students sink you weight into your support leg when spinning it might stick more than you are used to.

    area measurement & pricing?

I will be covering about an estimate of 28 feet x 22 feet in area (or)
27 feet x 21 feet at the least.
How many of your mats would I need to purchase? I'm not sure if I calculated right (28x22x1 divided by 11.09 =55.54/56 mats? Please correct me.
Also;the 11.09 (is that the size of the mat?) Thanks again, and have a great day! :-) Fran

Your math adds up to me Fran (And yes the 11.09 indicates the square footage of each mat). I'd also recommend buy a few extra if you accidentally ruin one or have to cut one and don't quite get the cut right.

    shipping air to Guam?

I would like to have some mats mailed out to Guam; but if that's not possible (could I pay them from my credit card & use a mailing address for example: Jackson,Florida) and have my sensei pick it up from our headquarters address to bring this way? Thank you and have a great day! :-) With all due respect, Fran

Fran. That might be possible. I recommend adding the mats to your shopping cart and then going to the checkout process. From there, attempt to add your Guam mailing address. If you get shipping options, you know you're in good shape. Otherwise the site will indicate that it can't process the request.

    Good Stuff

I got these mats for my make shift gym in my garage for my wife and I to use for workout videos, I use martial arts videos and she does P90X. I did a lot of research and these mats seem to be the best for the concrete floor and for a customizable space without spending a ton of money. You just have to make sure you line up the right "puzzle piece" sides since they are different and if you mess up one side the whole setup can end up misaligned. But they don't move much at all once laid out, they look good, provide the necessary padding for workouts and are easily customizable.

In addition, the $2.95 shipping was great since I knew I didn't have to overbuy and waste money since I could just buy more as needed. They shipped out quick and came in perfect condition.

    Falls and rolls

Would this matting be thick enough for a youngster (9) to practise her rolls and falls?

Pueblo - yes these mats would pad rolls quite nicely. If she is just starting falls, you may want to get a transportable mat for additional padding until she gets used to it.

Would it hurt the mats if they were on concrete or cement with a wavemaster XXL & doing kicking etc.???
What if i taped the back of the mats together? Then would the wavemaster XXL still shift or disrupted the mats?

Hi Lu - these mats should be able to withstand that kind of setup. However, you may experience a little bit of slipping from time to time as cement doesn't really help keep the mats in place, and the wavemaster may shift and disrupt the mats. Just something to consider.

lu, try setting your wavemaster on a yoga mat or something similar when using it on these mats, it should stop the displacement problem

they are sold separately (one jigsaw piece mat) & the price depends on the total square feet your space is. There is a formula to find out how many mats you need to order :

Total Square Feet divided by 11.09 = # of mats needed
