Product Description
  • Made with K-10 quality 14oz. 100% soft brushed cotton
  • Side vents with tie straps for improved ventilation

  • 5 lines of stitching at the collar
  • 13 lines of stitching in the pants
  • Traditional drawstring waist
  • Mesh and vinyl carrying bag included

The KD Elite heavyweight gi is a rare combination of comfort, performance, and durability.

Soft brushed cotton makes this gi a treat to wear while still providing the superior feel of a heavyweight gi. Many other heavyweight uniforms can be stiff and bulky, leaving student's distracted. KD Elite allows practitioners to train at full speed right away, unencumbered.

Most white karate uniforms look the same, so it can be difficult to tell the difference. There are a few important details that, if overlooked, can become aggravating later. For example, KD Elite utilizes a drawstring waist in favor of elastic. Elastic waist bands work fine for student uniforms, but they run the risk of wearing out. Drawstring bands can handle countless amounts of tying and untying, even as the weight of a practitioner fluctuates.

Another important detail is the cut of the uniform. There are two cuts for a karate gi: traditional cut, and tournament cut. The primary difference between the two is the extremity length. A traditionally cut gi will have full length arms and legs, while tournament style is cut shorter, leaving the upper arm and lower leg exposed. KD Elite is a traditionally cut uniform that lays very comfortably on any body type.

One important concern for many martial artists is the audible crack they can produce during kicks, punches, and blocks. This snapping demonstrates focus in technique and can help win tournaments. The KD Elite not only fits well, but performs well too. The heavy stitching around the ankles and wrists (10 rows), combined with high quality cotton material, provides a reliable "snap-factor" that can help during tournaments or for gauging technical progress.

It can be a liberating moment when a martial artist moves from a floppy student gi, or a subpar heavyweight gi, to a high quality one. The 14 oz. KD Elite offers top-of-the-line quality at a price rarely seen by high end competitors like Shureido and Tokeido. Make the move today and take your training to the next level.

I love the look and feel of the Shureido Gis, even though they are expensive.
A friend had the KD Elite K10 and it felt and looked very similar. I tried his and as long as the price on the KD Elite is cheaper, I will be buying this one form now on.

I ordered the heavyweight gi as I wanted something that could be used for both ranged work and grappling. I'm 5' 9" and 84kg and the size 5 was a little big at first but one very hot wash later it fits perfectly.

I'm used to 10&12oz gis as being heavyweight so this 14oz one is a bit too heavy but it's also extremely tough and the quality is excellent.

The only slight criticism I have is that the numerous lines of stitching around the extra heavy-duty cuffs & ankles makes them a little bit too stiff. It gives the gi a kind of show uniform feel rather than a day-to-day training uniform, but it's not a big deal at all. If you sold a 12oz version I'd prefer that, but otherwise I'd be happy to get another one of these.

Very well made

Love this gi. Only been wearing it for a couple weeks but so far it's been more than I wanted. There really isn't anything better than a heavy weight gi for karate, and after years of wearing a lightweight, I finally get what all the fuss is about. Recommended.

Overweight Karateka

What is the waist range for size #8?
I'm starting Karate and I am 275 lbs heavy but just 5'11". My problem is finding a karategui that is wide enough but not meant for a 6'6"+ person who is very tall but thin.

Hi Orthie. The Size 8 uniform can accommodate a person of 260-270 pounds. I think it will work for you. However, be aware that you will definitely have to cuff the pant legs and jacket sleeves as the size 8 is also made for individuals in the 6' height range.

my main uniform

The KD Elite heavyweight gi is my main gi of choice. This is the one I wear to all of the formal events I attend, and use it only a weekly basis as well. The fabric is much more comfortably than some other brands I have tried, and still provides excellent response to techniques.

This will arrive in a traditional cut.

This is an absolutely great gi! It is a very heavy, but the cotton is very soft. It is cut a little large, and does shrink a little in the wash. It is a tournament cut, meaning slightly shorter arms and legs, but plenty of room to move. It is the best gi I have ever owned. If only it came in black as well

I have this Shureido gi, this is a great gi. It is heavyweight but still feels soft. It doesn't cut into your neck the way a lot of heavyweight gi's do. The pants, although tournament cut, are very long which is nice too. If you like the Shureido but don't want to spend the money, this is a great gi at a great price.

Another Sizing Question

Sorry to ask yet another sizing question, you seem to have a lot on here, but I just want a second opinion to be sure. I'm 5' 9, about 143ish, what size would you recommend?

Hi Sean. If you go with the size 5 you'll be comfortable and will likely have to cuff the pant legs and sleeves once or twice. A size 4 will be a bit more form fitting but will likely require no cuffing.

I know we don't have any unfortunately, but you can try here: http://www.blackbeltshop.com/white_14oz_traditional_super_heavyweight_karate_uniform_by_bold_size_9-12.htm

I've never shopped with them personally, so I can't vouch for them, but they do stock bigger sizes.

I think you would want to go with the size 5. The length will be manageable for you, and the waist should be within the realm of drawstring tightness.

Tall Guy

I'm 6'4" at 250 lbs. I have a long reach with a 36" inseam. I was thinking about a size 6, but I'm likely to shrink the gi a bit in the wash. What do you recommend?

You could definitely get away with a 6 if you only cold wash, hang dry in order to reduce shrinkage. If you prefer normal wash and dryer, go with a 7.

Ok, and One Last Question...
--Is this nice gi -Dry Clean- safe?
I was thinking of getting a -Size 7- because it might shrink after a few wahses as mentioned here, and don't want it to become "uncomfortable" for me.

It is a very nice gi, and it can be dry cleaned if you want. You can also wash it in warm water and let it hang dry instead of putting it in the dryer. That will prevent most shrinking.

Awesome. Thanks, man! :-) Lol. and Btw, I want a size that's gets the skirt of the jacket below the belt, reach down toward my knees. I'm 6'1'' and 224 lbs. Should a -Size 7- be alright? And does the gi come with a white belt or is it sold separately?

A size 6 would actually be your most ideal match. A size 7 would give some extra space in the length and width of the uniform.

This gi does not come with the white belt, so you'll have to order that up separately. Belt length will generally match gi size #.

I am 6'2, 245 pounds, I have a 32" inseam on jeans and dress pants with a 42" waist. My current gi is a size 7, seems a bit large in the upper. When I checked your sizing chart I saw that a size 7 has a 40" inseam? is that correct? A person with an inseam of that length would have to be close to 7'6" tall. I liked what I read about the stitching and such on these gi's, but that won't matter much to me if I have to take it to a local tailor to get cut down, any suggestions as to which size I would need? Should I be looking at tournament gi's to have the cuffs about 2" shy of my wrists?

sizing

My student gi is a size 3 and fits perfectly. I ordered a size 3 in this gi and while the top fits nicely (arms a bit long), the bottoms are HUGE. As in, I can actually wrap the waist all the way around my waist. I can fit two of me in the pants! And though the measurements say 24" inseam, they are way too long. Did I maybe get a mismatched set with bigger pants?

I am 5'4" 130 pounds, 28" waist, 30" inseam. I'm worried that if I exchange it for a size 2 it will be too small. Should I just wash it a few times to see if it shrinks? Exchange for another size 3 and hope the pants thing was just a mix up?

Hi Chrissy. What you are experiencing is actually rather normal. The drawstring waist of heavyweight gi seem much wider than they need to be. All you have to do is pull the drawstrings tight so that they function as an elastic waist would. You can then tie or double knot the string to use up excess slack.

Washing it a few times will probably help in getting it down to a smaller size as these are cotton construction.

Hello,
My name is James...I live in Alaska, I am 6' tall..140 lbs, I have a very long reach. I am in need of a black gi for my new class, and I was also curious about how long it will take for shipping here to Homer ? Any information will be appreciated.

Thank You,

Hi James. I would go with the size 5 for you. A size 4 might be a bit too short in the sleeves.

For a black heavyweight gi, check out this link: un-hv-60. That model is also 14oz.

As for the shipping, you'll have to add an item to your cart and begin the checkout process to figure that out. It tells you automatically as you go.

Shrinking and Ironing

I am a big guy and am looking for a good fitting gi. How much does this gi shrink over time due to washing and being 100% cotton how much ironing does it need?
by: Dave
11/25/2010 9:00:42 AM
Was this helpful? (0) (0)
The shrinking that will occur happens on the first 1 or 2 washes, then pretty much stops. To deter shrinking, hang dry instead of machine dry.

You will have to do some ironing, otherwise it definitely looks wrinkled and unkept.

Size of Elite Heavyweight Karate Uniform

Dear sir/madam,

I am so sorry to bother you again. I am 5'6" tall and 165 lbs but I forgot to tell you last time that I have a 36" waist . Could you please tell me whether the size that you recommended last time still good for me? Moreover, Is it the size will be not the same if I choose to buy traditional cut or I choose to buy tournament cut and according to my size which one is more good for me?

Thank you so much for anyone who answer me this question again

Hi Francis. If you with a size #4 the pants and sleeves will fit you nicely, however it might be a bit snug around the midsection. If you go with a size #5 the sleeves and pants will require you to cuff them up once or twice, but the waist will be comfortable.

If you order belts at the same time as the uniform (All in the same shopping cart), they will very likely all be shipped together at a very low rate.

If you go with the size #5 you'll fit comfortably around the waist but will have to cuff the sleeves and legs. If you go with size #4 you'll have a snugger waist but slightly better sized sleeves and legs.

I bought 2 of these for my 14 year old boys. Nice weight and feel; plenty of snap with punches and side kicks; substantial enough for grappling. However, one of them immedieately began to fray and come apart at 2 places due to poor stitching. I believe that my wife can address this, but it is a little disappointing.

Where do you take measurements to determine fit

Hi Patti - the best places to take your measurements are across the shoulders, up the pant inseam, the length of arm, and the vertical length of torso. Then compare those numbers with those at the bottom of this page.
