Karate gi?

I want a gi that is not too light-weight; but not one made of canvas; & doesn't need ironing. I am a woman, 5'4", 120#, experienced martial artist. What should I order?

Hi Paula. I think what you are looking for is a middleweight gi. Middleweight's avoid the 't-shirt' feel of some very lightweight uniforms but also are not made of thick canvas. Browse our options here: http://www.karatedepot.com/middleweight-karate-uniform.html.

Where is it made?

I want a Japanese or American-made Gi. This one looks to be of good quality at a reasonable price. I don't want a cheap Chinese gi.

Also...I'm 6'4" and pretty slender and somewhat muscular. I wear a 34" waist size with a 36" inseam. Size US large shirts are usually okay. What size gi should I buy...?

Thank you.

Hi Soylentgreen. Mizuno is based out of Japan and USA, however they have factories in other countries (including China). As such, we can tell you that the quality of Mizuno is high but we don't have control over whether or not it comes from China.

In terms of size - I think a 4.5 or 5 would be the way to go.

Is this gi made of duck canvas? Also, is the waist on the pants elastic or do they have a draw string?

Size Information

I am 5'8" and 205lbs with a 38" waist what size gi would you recommend.

Bob - I think you are in the 5 to 5.5 range. A six would be comfortable for weight but quite long on the sleeves and pant legs.

women gi

Hi, my wife is 5 feet, around 120 pound. Does a size 3 would fit her? What do you suggest? She's looking for a black kimono. She is shodan in Kenpo style. Thanks.

I think a size 2 would be the best way to go. Also, if you need a black gi, you can check this one out: un-md-906.

help me find closet size

Ok--need to buy a gi for a man who is about 5 11 & about a 40 inch waist & broad sholders (think football player). I don;t mind getting the uniform hemmed if need be. Can you please advise me on a size? Thanks.

Mizuno tends to run a little large, so I think 4.5 or 5 is your ideal range. Since you have the ability to hem the uniform I would probably opt for the 5.

I think a size 6.5 could fit, but a size 7 would allow for a little shrinking in the wash.

Im 5'11", 275 lbs wide as a tank I purchased a Gi a while ago size 6 and it was too small I need tournament cut because I dont want to roll the sleves and pants up, what size would be best.

I think you could go 6.5 in Mizuno. As for the tournament cut, your only real option is to hem the sleeves and pant legs to your desired length.

Hi, I'm 5'4 and about 128 lbs, which size is fit me better, size 2 1/2 or size 3?

You would actually be fine with either. However the 2.5 would be a bit more form fitting while the 3 would be a little looser.

I think the same as fuji - a more form fit for 5, with some comfort space in a 6.

Great quality, even greater fit!

Mizuno has always been a staple gi in Judo circles, and given that I much prefer tournament cuts over traditional I went ahead and tried this gi out. I am 5'7" and 175 athletically built and the size 4 fit me perfectly.

The gi provides excellent feedback snap, and it's cut at just the right length. The only downside is that it's not preshrunk, and so you have to make sure to wash cold/cold and lay it or hang it to dry...being sure to iron it before hand. Even doing that, mine shrunk a tad, but still fits great for me. No more rolling up my sleeves or hemming up the pants!

Please help!

My Daughter needs a Gi! She is about 4'5'' she has a BudoNord Heavy weight size 1. She likes it but wishes the Jacket was longer without getting wider. The size 1 is almost too short but its is really still big in the underarms. It doesnt have to be heavy weight more of a everyday/kumite gi is fine. Just needs to be longer Jacket without buying something that needs to be altered. Tournament cut prob best. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Shotokan. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the way BudoNord cuts their gi, which means I can't give a concrete answer as to how the other gi compare.

The best I can do is assure that if you try something like Mizuno and don't feel it suits her needs we will arrange an exchange or refund for you.

I'm 6'1/2" tall your chart says I'm a 6.5 is that correct? Also does this gi come in black and what do your readers mean when they say "leave off sign"

Hi Ralph. Depending on the weight situation, you'd be fine with a size 6 too. I'm not certain with the reviewer is referring to with 'leave off sign'.

Sizing and the Fat Man

I am thinking about moving up to a tournament cut heavyweight gi and had a few ?'s . I ordered the student uniform from KD size 7 and had to hem the pants quite a bit. I am 5'6" and weigh 275, and have a 44" waist. Will a size 4 gi fit me as I see that the size chart says it will fit a 47" waist ?

Hey Mr. Breeze. I think you should play it safe and go with the size 5 here. a little extra space with only minimal hemming.
