The KD Elite White Middleweight Karate Uniform is perfect for those seeking a traditional karate look with a softer, modern feel.

Sometimes heavyweight uniforms are just too much! When that happens, it's time to use subtlety and design to create a gi focused on usability. The KD Elite White Middleweight features an 8.5 ounce crossover style uniform with inner ties. This is a classic look for karate jackets and will be immediately familiar to anyone who has been training for awhile (and for those students just beginning, it's a snap to learn). Furthermore, the material blend (52% cotton, 48% polyester) is a careful mix that provides outstanding comfort. Stiffness is a thing of the past and shrinking is minimized for this gi.

Comfort is important, but so is durability. The White Middleweight features doubled lined, reinforced stitching on the collars and cuffs. Experienced martial artists will tell you that cuff stitching is critical for generating good snap and allows the uniform to survive countless techniques. The jacket collar is bound to be grabbed and handled throughout the course of training, so double stitching there helps prevent wear and tear. In addition, by providing extra panels in key locations such as the shoulders and crotch, the KD Elite allows for very natural movement and unhindered techniques.

A common complaint with very heavy uniforms is that they can become a burden after extensive training. Because of that, some martial artists choose to have a ceremonial heavy gi for certain occasions, and a lighter gi for continuous training. This uniform is designed for training and allows excellent breathability by means of side vents and lighter material. For the karate student who wishes to be unencumbered, the White Middleweight is a wise choice.

KD Elite has strategically designed each of there uniforms to provide maximum results with minimal financial investment. The White Middleweight Karate Uniform is the top choice for practitioners who want an outstanding combination of light weight feel with heavy weight punch.

Exploring Different Gi Weights (Pros and Cons of Each)

The host uses a cotton T Shirt, lightweight gi (8oz) and heavyweight gi (14oz) to demonstrate the practical and performance differences of different gi weights.

The size of a gi is only one metric you'll have to choose in order to get the best one for your needs. The weight of a gi (measured in ounces) will dictate the heaviness of the material and the general stitch count. Choosing the right one can affect your comfort and performance. Permalink

Noisy uniform?

I'm a 5'2 female that weighs 170 lbs so I'm thinking a size four is probably best and I'll just hem the pants a bit. My concern is that it will squeak. This may sound silly but my current uniform makes a squeaky noise whenever it rubs against itself like during situps or something. It sounds plastic-y, not like fabric or canvas or anything. It drives me crazy. Has anyone else experienced that with this (or any other) uniform?

Hi Abbie. That squeeking you are hearing might be from a cotton/polyester blend in your uniform. To get a more canvas experience, you should aim for 100% cotton. This heavyweight gi is an example of that: un-hv-860. Sizes 3 and 4 would be your best bet.

size help

I am a 50 year old woman and my height is 5'8" and I weigh more than I want at 170lbs. I also wear a bra size of 38D. My current gi's pants are too short and the top is a little snug but I cannot find the size in this one. Can anyone tell me what size I would need?

Hi Vicky. At a glance I would say the size 4 would serve you quite well. If your order a 4 and it's not quite right you can contact us for a swap in size.

5 seems too Big

I am 5' 8" and about 190 lbs. I bought a size 5 but I seem to swim in it. Will it shrink or should I return it for a size 4?

It will shrink kit, although I do believe for your height the size 4 would be a better option. If you'd like to arrange a return, do so before you wash the 5 :-).

I'm buying a second one!

I've been using this uniform for a few weeks now and I am very satisfied with its performance. The fabric definitely has a stiffer, heavier feel than you might be use to in your beginners uniform (I'm a green belt), but I find it gives my techniques a bit more snap and I've been complimented on its fit by my classmates.

Be advised: I'm 5'10" 195 lbs, ordered a size 5, and needed to hem the pants a couple of inches to keep from stepping on them. This was necessary even after a hot wash and machine dry. The jacket is also a bit large, but I'm pleased with that as I was tired of my old uniform riding up during workouts! Shrinkage seems to be minimal.

Overall, it's a good uniform at a excellent price. Strongly Recommended! ;-)

I think the size 6 will be your best bet. You could also go with a 7 and shrink it intentionally in the wash.

A size 5 will be an inch or two short on the pant legs and sleeves, but it will be comfortable weight-wise. Alternatively you could bump up to a 6, but expect some bagginess.

Petite Curvy Woman Size?

Please help me decipher a size to order. For pants: I'm 5'3" (160cm) tall with a 26" inseam (66cm), a waist of 26" (66cm) and hips of 34" (86.4cm); I typically wear a size 2 or 4 jean. For tops: I wear a 32D bra, have a 34 bust (86.4cm) with a 29" (73.7cm) ribcage; I typically wear a medium top. I weigh about 110 pounds or less. I think I should get the size 3 gi based on height and weight, but I have a feeling the pants will fall to to the floor and the top will keep coming untied. A smaller size, and I'm afraid it will be way too tight all over though. What sizes do you recommend I get for jacket and pant? May I order separately? Thanks!

Hi Patti. You do have the ability to order separate sizes for jacket and pants with this item. My recommendation would be to go with the size 3 to allow for a little shrinking in the wash. At first the gi is going to feel baggier than what you're used to, but you'll get used to it quickly. If for any reason the 3 is just too large, let us know and we can arrange an exchange.

All I need now is some chest-hair . . .

I bought this to have a spare gi for when I'm not in the dojo - I bounce back between a size 3 and 4, and the size 3 is a perfect fit (finally!). Granted, the polyester/cotton blend is . . . whatever, but it's nice not to have to iron all the time; as such, you aren't going to get 'mega-snap-response' from this gi, but it IS comfortable (and sharp). For real, this is a great gi at a killer price. Perfect for all students, as it's not too thin and wispy of material, but not as overbearing as a heavy-weight gi. Also, the cut of the jacket is not as baggy as other gis (yay). If you are looking for a good gi at a reasonable price, check it out.

I think a size 5 would be most comfortable. You can just cuff the sleeves and pant legs if they feel a bit long for you (it's normal to do that).

I would probably go with the size 6, especially if you get a little shrinking in the wash.

I'd recommend a size 3, just be sure to do cold wash and hang dry so it doesn't shrink on you.

Hi Ming Lee. Yes, shipping to the UK will not be a problem.

Size-wise I think a size 4 would be your best bet. You'll have to cuff the pant legs and sleeves, but with that done it should be a good fit.

If you're worried about shrinking in the wash, you can go size 5.

Excellent Gi

Excellent Gi, especially for the price. Well made and fits precisely, unlike my previous Gi. I look forward to using this for many years to come. I ordered the wrong size by mistake and Karate Depot was excellent about managing the return for the correct size.

Hi. My daughter is 58" tall, 67lbs with a waist of 23". What size is best for her? With the pants being drawstring is getting her a 1 a better value since she's growing quickly? I was torn between a 0 or a 1.

The 0 would be the most perfect fit at this moment, but like you said she'll be growing. You could easily get away with a 1 for awhile until she grows into it.

Heavy material. Poor quality stitching

The gi is heavy for someone who prefers less constricted movement. Sweat factor is a problem as the cotton becomes saturated and heavier. Stitching is starting to come apart despite having done any take downs or throws as expected for karate discipline. No suitable for active practice.

Good Quality

My Boyfriend & I got this Gi instead of the ones offered by our Sensei. He recomended looking online for better quality and we found it. THe run a bit big but the quality is worth it. It didnt shrink much in the wash even after the attempts to do so. I am 5'6 & 158lbs and found them to be a big large round waist. I will surely order it again especially being a girl needing it to not be as see through as the previous ones.

Aneesha - if you'd like it to last awhile and are expecting some growth spurts, you may want to go with a size 3. Right now, a size 2 would be your best fit, but your child may grow out of it if they hit a spurt.

I have the middleweight uniform in Black and am very happy with it. This one though did not come out in the same high quality.
I washed it once to get some of the stiffness out and both the top and bottom have started to bauble (when the threads or fabric start to raise in like tiny loose balls). Also the sizing chart convinced me to go a size lower than my gut instinct (its been a while since i bought one and I had thought maybe the sizes had changed).
Its fine for practicing twice a week, just not upto the usual high standards one comes to expect. As a general word of advice from someone who usually trains with a black gi. Stay away from all sources of dirt or possible dirt :). The white gis get dirty and stain very easily.

This uniform was PERFECT for my sons karate class! It's lightweight enough for a beginner (he's a green belt) but durable enough to withstand a 5 year olds treatment of it. I have been very happy with this product!
