Product Description
  • Reinforced stitching at the shoulders and lapels
  • Elastic draw string waist
  • Reinforced, gusseted crotch
  • Includes white belt
  • 55% cotton and 45% polyester blend
  • Middle weight uniform

The KD Elite Black Middleweight Uniform brings comfort and style together in an extremely affordable package.

This uniform offers the complete set of pants, jacket, and belt. The material is a carefully constructed 8.5 ounce blend of 55% cotton and 45% polyester which provides a surprisingly soft material against the skin. At the same time, there is a pronounced thickness and durability that makes this uniform stand out. For those martial artists who have a hard time finding balance between a thin student's gi and an ultra-stiff heavyweight gi, this is the uniform of choice.

To augment the most heavily used parts of a uniform, KD Elite has provided reinforced stitching at pivotal locations, such as the shoulders and lapel. This stitching helps ensure durability when a uniform gets tugged and handled. Furthermore, the crotch area is reinforced and gusseted to provide excellent range of motion for kicking. The Black Middleweight Gi utilizes an elastic waistband with drawstring. This combination provides easy on-and-off while allowing for practitioners of various weights and sizes to train unimpeded.

One factor that can be very difficult to gauge in a gi before actually trying it on is the cut. Different uniforms have very subtle cut variations that cause the gi to lay on the body differently. This "cut factor" is where the Black Middleweight uniform really excels. The pants have great usability due to the design of crotch and waist, and the jacket has an extremely natural feel. It doesn't hang stiffly, nor does it behave as a t-shirt; instead it follows the contours of the body and allows for great mobility and style.

Wearing the KD Elite Black Middleweight Gi definitely makes a statement in the dojo. The rich, dark color and quality material stand out amongst competitors. The cut makes a martial artist look and feel natural, keeping their mind on important training, rather than adjusting their gi. With the belt, pants, and jacket all included, this cost-friendly package is what you really need to jumpstart your training.

The material looks rather shiny in the pics. I was hoping it would be a more matte black. Or does it just happen to look shiny in the pics alone?

Hi Chris. This gi has 45% polyester, which gives it a little bit of a shine compared to straight cotton uniforms. That being said, the photo above is a little shinier than the gi in real life.

Size Question

I am 5'11 and 309lbs, what size would you recommend for both pants and top.

I would recommend a size 7 for the gi top and a 6 or 7 for the pants depending on where you hold your weight. The safest bet is going 7 and then just cuffing the pant legs and sleeves.

Ok I'm 6'1 and I only weight 160lbs. The last gi I got fit around the waste but only went down to my knees so i had to take it back. What size would you recommend?

I think you're going to want to go with a size 5. You shouldn't experience any noticeable length issues, and the waist should still fit without issue.

I think a size 5 is going to be your sweet spot. 5 May be a little tight around the midriff, but a 6 might be long in sleeve and pant leg.

Heres my problem, I'm 5'4 but I'm really stocky at 200 pounds, what size would you suggest????

The good thing about this gi is that you can easily cuff or hem the pant legs and sleeves. That being the case, I recommend the size 5. You could probably fit in the size 4 but it might be tight around the waist and you wouldn't want to allow any shrinking in the wash.

I was wondering how this uniform compares to the un-md-13 (Macho Black Karate Uniform)?

This one is slightly more expensive, but I can't really tell which would be better...

Hi Scott. The two uniforms in question are extremely similar. They are the same weight and general construction. The gi on this page can be bought in different sizes for top and bottom. As for differences in quality - it's mostly just a matter of individuals coming to enjoy the subtleties of one brand over another. Nothing I could explicitly recommend to you.

I want to surprise a friend who is starting martial arts. She is "5'2 3/4" and 109 lbs. Very Petite and usually wears a size 0 or 00 in pants. Not sure whether to get her a size 3 or size 2. You thoughts?

I'd probably go with the 2. Gi can feel baggy to begin with even when fitting correctly, so erring on the side of smaller is a good idea.

Hi Juan. You'll have to grab the jacket and pants separately for that color combo.

Here's the jacket - un-md-17
and here's the pants - un-md-141

Exploring Different Gi Weights (Pros and Cons of Each)

The host uses a cotton T Shirt, lightweight gi (8oz) and heavyweight gi (14oz) to demonstrate the practical and performance differences of different gi weights.

The size of a gi is only one metric you'll have to choose in order to get the best one for your needs. The weight of a gi (measured in ounces) will dictate the heaviness of the material and the general stitch count. Choosing the right one can affect your comfort and performance.

Pleasantly Surprised

This is the first item I have ordered from KD and it looks like it won't be the last!
The uniform is everything I could have hoped for. It seems very durable and should last a very long time.
Some observations (not complaints): it needs to line-dried (it shouldn't be tumble dried) and the legs did need to be hemmed - although I did expect this due to the large variation in the stated measurements.

do these uniforms run big. The size chart is different than most I have seen. I where a size 8 but would like it a little looser. Acording the the size chart I would be a 7 or 8

Hey Aaron, I would go with the 8. These do tend to run a little loose, so you should be fine there.

black velvet!

although the first uniform I bought was the wrong size, that was my fault, not KD.com's. the other uniforms I bought were all of the same quality, excellent! they are nice and heavy like blue jeans and give a nice "snap" when kicking. the seams are strong enough for jiujitsu but might tear after a few months of judo. but thier perfect for MMA which is what I use them for. well worth the money. I applied my dojo's symbol on the back with avery dark transfers and the fabric soaked them up very well, that transfer is now very perminent!

I am used to a heavyweight gi, but am just looking to do some light training away from home. This is as described, medium weight. Good gi for money. I ordered a size larger than I usually get because I didn't know if they ran true to chart. I would have been fine with my original sizing.Since it is a cotton/poly mix, very little shrinkage. Overall, good gi for the money. Shipping was fast. Great customer service.

This uniform feels more like a light heavyweight then a medium weight uniform. Fits well and doesn't shrink too much. It is just the right size and thickness, unless you are looking for a super heavyweight uniform. In that case you will want to get a true heavyweight. Overall, an unbeatable price for a great uniform.

I ordered this uniform and I'm happy I did!! It broke-in very nicely and is tough as nails -- even after intense throws and falls no rips or tears. I will be ordering another one for me and one for my son who just earned his black belt. Don't pay more and get less!!! Fast shipping and great S&H prices make this an even better deal!!

A good product

The uniform came on time and was a good quality. There is another karate depot logo on the jacket on the skirting, but it can be easily covered by putting the right side over the left.

Its good quality for a good price.
