Practicing aikido, traditional drawstring pants just were not being cooperative. As an uke I was thrown to the ground and getting back up consistently. After 3 or 4 repetitions of this my pants would be falling off. Searching the web for a solution I found these elastic waistband pants. They also include a drawstring feature that runs through the elastic waistband so if you like that feature it's still there. Not only is this middle weight pant durable but they eliminated the problem of losing my pants in the middle of practice. Permalink

I purchased these pants because my current uniforms have shrunk and simply not held up. I'm glad it has a hip pocket on the right back side, which is really handy for days I'm teaching. These pants are very solidly constructed and hit the perfect balance of strength, durability, and ability to slide naturally when picking the legs up for kicks (no more grabbing the pant leg to pull it up during technical kicks - which is a no-no anyway).

The only drawback on the pants is that they are black but use a white drawstring (external in the front) which stands out. The belt can cover it up, but not completely. Just be aware of this.
