Product Description
    • Classic White Student Gi
    • 7oz material weight
    • Cotton/polyester blend
    • Traditional cut
    • Traditional jacket tie closures
    • Elastic pant waistband
    • Comes with jacket, pants, and white belt (colored belts are not substitutable)

This 7 oz. uniform is highly recommended for beginner students. Starting out in martial arts is not an easy task, so the last thing you need is to be uncomfortable while you're trying to absorb a wide array of techniques and principles. KD Elite certainly kept that in mind when engineering this lightweight kimono. The fabric is light enough that you can move freely and comfortably, able to fully concentrate on learning your discipline.

Your gi jacket is constructed from a lightweight and breathable cotton/polyester blend. Adding to its breathability are the two reinforced side vents, both of which feature adjustable tie cords. These tie cords are easily adjusted and secured to get you the perfect fit. The uniform's traditional cut offers ample mobility and an authentic feel/fit.

Your gi pants are made of the same cotton/polyester blend as the jacket, allowing them to breathe and remain nice and light. A triangular crotch panel helps keep the fit comfortable while learning various high kicks. This panel also prevents the pants from botching up when kicking, as well as keeping unnecessary stress off of the seams in the crotch area. For your convenience, the waistband is both elasticated and uses an adjustable drawstring. The elastic comfortably accommodates a wide range of waist sizes, while the added drawstring is perfect for cinching up the pants and making minor adjustments before training.

For the KD Elite brand, you can order a mix-and-match uniform set. Please use the first pull-down menu to select a jacket size and the second pull-down menu to select pant size.

This uniform will include a free white belt that matches your jacket size. E.g., if you order a size 2 jacket with size 3 pants, your uniform will include a size 2 white belt.

Its best to use the height chart vs. the weight chart. Buy big remember they'll grow into them. A little extra room is great!

What to Expect out of a Student Gi

This video explores what exactly you'll get when you first put on a student gi. First time martial artists are often surprised by the weight, form, and function of a gi and how different it can be from regular western clothing.

Discussed are weight differences between 8 ounce (light weight) and 14 ounce (heavy weight), as well as pros and cons of both uniform types.

good uniform

I got this for my five year old daughter. my childern and I do alot of martial arts together. They attend a jiu jitsu class that I assist in teaching. This little Gi has held up to the challenge. I am very pleased in its performance. Just be careful when drying they will shrink on you. Great Uniform for the price.

Great Buy

I bought this uniform for my son because he out grew his last one. The material is not heavy which doesn't weigh him down during class. Great for the summer!

This is my daughter's first uniform and when I took it out of the package it was the stiffest fabric I had ever felt. But I washed it and she wore it a bit and now it is great. I can't imagine paying a lot for a heavier fabric, this is just perfect for moving around and getting hot.

Yes the fabric is definitely going to seem unusual at first, especially when you take it fresh out of the packaging. In a short amount of time though it will loosen up and become very pliable. In fact, I bet that after a few years your daughter will want a thicker fabric so that she gets a more tactile response during her techniques. But, for now, this should do nicely!

Great uniform

This is my first gi and I am quite satisfied with it. I read some of the other reviews and considered how they mentioned the size being smaller than expected. Some of the dimensions on the sizing chart didn't fit me. I am 5'5'', 160 pounds, and have a size 34 waistband. I went with the size 4 gi. It fit perfect, except for the length of the pant legs, they were a little too long, but that can just be hemmed and everything will be perfect. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

This garment is too light weight and does not stand up to the hard use an 8-year old can dish out.

My son is 8 soon to be 9. He's always bigger than his peers. I thought he'd need a 2 because he is about 4'7 and weighs 95 pounds. A lot is muscle, stocky. Then when I look at the boys sizes, it appears a 2 will be long, for a taller kid.

Not sure of size or fit to purchase

I am an ambitious middle aged adult male who is taking Karate for the very first time. I am a bit befuddled about your sizing for the KD student karate uniform. I am 5ft10 and about 200 lbs. Can you tell me which size gi jacket and pant I should order/ I think I understand the sizing for the pants, but the Jacket appears to either run very small, or extremely large. My size doesn't appear to be on the sizing chart. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi MC. First of all, congrats on starting Karate. I think you'll find it extremely rewarding. As for the sizing - go with the size 5. You may have to cuff the pant legs and sleeves once, but it should be a comfortable fit. This is a cotton/poly blend so it'll only shrink a little if you do hot wash/ spin dry.

uniform size issue

OK, I am 5'6 180lb male with a 31in waist and wear around a 28-29in length( I have short legs for my size). What would you guys recommend? This also goes for a judo/bjj gi. I have a size 4 gi, but pants are too long, and the karate gi is just a little short. Odd configuration!!!

I think a size 4 is going to be your most comfortable fit. For the pants you can simply cuff up the legs to accommodate any extra length.

Alternatively, you can grab a size 3 in pants.

I believe the size 0 should be right where he needs to be. If you are expecting a growth spurt you could go size 1 and cuff the pant legs and sleeves.

I believe he would be set with a size 5. This is a cotton/poly blend so you'll experience a bit of shrinking, but not as much as 100% cotton.

My 11 yo daughter is 4'11, 70 pounds and has a 27 in waist. I'm thing a size 1 is best, or should I get a different size jacket and pant. Height over weight more important (although she won't want the pants falling down!)

Hi LF. Assuming you'll get a little shrinking in the wash, I would recommend a size 2 for you. It'll feel a little baggy at first for her, but I believe she'll get used to it and even grow into it somewhat.

Yet another sizing question!

I'm 5'10 and about 195 lbs. I've been using a medium weight size 5 gi. The bottom fits ok, but the top rides up during stretching and basic motion. I was thinking of getting a size 5 pant and a size 6 top. How would that work for me? I typically wash my uniform in hot water and machine dry it. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Bevix. Normally I would say going size 5 for top and bottom would be your best bet. However if it isn't comfortable you can try a 6 top. If you order it and it doesn't work out, just return it before you wash it (you'll have to return the pants too).

what size

I have a shaply girl- 5'2" and 135lbs. would she be better off in a size 4 than 3. she is a 2nd Que Brown belt but likes a light weight Gi for classes. Is this the best choice?

I would probably have recommended a size 3, however if you've already tried that size and it is a bit constrictive go ahead and get the 4. With the 4 you can always use a little hot wash and spin dry to shrink it if necessary.

As for lightness, yes - this gi is a good quality choice with high breathability.

How does the waist fit?

My daughter has tried 2-3 gi brands and the elastic waist is so small and tight it literally makes her sick. Seriously, a size 2 gi pants on our current uniform (Tiger Claw's TC 2000 series) looks like it was made for a toddler. She is 4'11", 98 lbs, a size 2 is way too long but terrible waist fit. What about the waist on these?

I think you'd be fine with a size 2 in this brand. However, you could also bump up to a size 3 and cuff the pant legs and sleeves during use (this is a very common practice).

Love the separate sizing

My hubby and son are both have long waists and have short legs. Right now on the 00 my sons pants are really long and the jacket is barely under his belt. This is a great option.

So now I need a size 0 jacket, but not pants.

Solid Product

This is a solid product that I have been using fairly intensely of late and it is holding up well. The light gi allows me to move my quickest and is of sturdy construction with no breaks, rips or tears after a good month of training. Great for anyone that is starting or has a few years of experience in the martial arts.

I made a mistake

They are taking Tae Kwon do do the sizings still stand as for Karate? The reviews for the Tae Kwon Do suits are not good. Does it make a difference which uniform
you get for which Martial Arts? The instructor gave you such a good recommendation.

Hi again Granny. The sizings for taekwondo uniforms and karate uniforms are almost exactly the same, so you could still use those recommendations. As for the style mattering - that tends to depend on the specific school they are attending. Some schools don't care and you can wear karate or taekwondo uniforms. Other schools will want you to get a specific style.

I recommend either asking someone at the school, or just getting the karate version and if there is a problem arrange an exchange with us.

Soft, Durable and Doesn't wrinkle

Just like the heading says. I bought this for my son and is a nice cotton / poly blend. Stays warm and doesn't wrinkle out of the dryer like many 100% cottons do. It's held up well in three months of usage. Real important is that the bottom of the Gi below the belt hangs long, which means the Gi doesn't pull above the belt requiring "tuck-ins" when there's a lot of activity.

Chart size problems...

I am 5'5 and weigh in at 210. the chart says weight in my size is 7-8 yet... I will be swimming because I am not 6'5.
What size should I get? I have very thick legs... thanks to soccer and rugby and everything high impact sports. This puts me in a very peculiar predicament because I am not slender. Picture a drawf trying to put on human gear. Yeah thats me. Does anyone have any solutions for this? either way it looks like I am going to end up having to hem the top and the bottom.

Yes, I see your situation! Here's what I recommend - go with the size 5. The 5 should have the room to accommodate you while only forcing you to cuff the sleeves and pant legs a few times (or you could hem them).

If you order and the size simply isn't cutting it, let us know and we'll arrange an exchange with you for a size up.

Real thin

My karate club has ordered gi's from Karate Depot in the past with great results, but these gi's were disappointing. While they might be good for beginners, they are very thin, so much so that you can see what the person is wearing underneath, and for more money than the gi's we bought previously, I expected better.

try it on before you wash it

When the Size 3 uniform arrived, it was a little bit large for me (I'm 5'1, 105 lbs) and there was a small black streak on one of the sleeves, so I popped it in the washer & dryer, hoping it would shrink some and that the mark would be cleaned off. Neither happened for me, and I wanted to return the item. So I read the returns policy on the website, which states that all items must be in "resalable" condition, contacted customer service for a "returns authorization number", and paid out of my own wallet to send the uniform back to Florida for a refund/exchange. Only to have them tell me when they received it that washed, intact items are not "resalable" and therefore nonrefundable. Wouldn't it have been great if customer service had mentioned this when I contacted them about the refund; a short "Please be aware that washed uniforms are nonreturnable" would have been fantastic. If I want the uniform sent back to me, they tell me I would have to pay $6 for shipping.

So, to fellow customers out there, please be aware that washed uniforms are nonrefundable.

quick shipping and good fit

I am a new marial arts student and ordered this gi from Karate Depot because I didn't have the time to go to the local M/A supply store. Size chart was right on because I am typically short and overweight. I will have to hem the pants, but other than that the fit is superb. Ordered on Wednsday and recieved two days later. I'm in the customer service business and THAT'S AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE ! "Always look eye, Danielson...always look eye"

great value, use all the size info

I bought 2 of these sometime last year and they have been used for training twice weekly with machine washing once or twice weekly. They have held up well and are stronger and thicker than I expected. They get a little softer after the first washing and the kids find them quite comfortable. I have just ordered a second set as the kids seem to be growing once again. In my case using the weight and measurements on the chart gave the best fit as my 5 yr old used size 1 and the 7yr old used size zero........tall and skinny vs short and stocky...no way would the size vs age chart work for us. Order arrived quickly and replies to my queries were answered in a timely manner

Excellent first gi

I am new to the martial art Cuong Nhu and decided to buy from KD because it was so cheap! But for the price, I ended up with a very sturdy, thick gi that my friends in Cuong Nhu were impressed with.

I am 5'3, 120 lbs, 20 years old, and female. I purchased a size 3 and it fits beautifully. The pants were a little long, but I roll them up anyway. I also love that it comes with a belt.

Good buy. :)

Potentially yes NinjaH, but you'll want to check with your specific school. Sometimes there is flexibility in regards to uniforms, sometimes not.

Love the uniform!

Upfront I actually bought these as more of a dress-up play uniform than for actual Karate classes and was looking for something affordable. My kids are 6 years old and 5 years old and very much want to take Karate classes but I have just not yet signed them up. So, I am not an expert on the specific quality but I was extremely pleased with my purchase. They are simple yet a very nice quality. I ordered the smallest one, I think it is the 00, for my small 5 year old and a 0 for my somewhat tall 6 year old and both are too big. But again, because they are just wearing them around the house during play time I just roll the pants and sleeves and it's all good.

Hi Ed. you'll want to measure the boy's hieght and weight and compare that to the sizing chart at the bottom of the page. It will be much closer to 00 than to 7 though.

worked great for us

The Student Karate Uniform in the 000 size was a great fit for my 2 1/2 year old (a 30 lb, 3 ft tall boy) -- the size chart was correct! Sleeve and pant length was a little long for him, but we just rolled them a bit and he has some room to grow. I thought the quality was great for our first uniform. My only disappointment was the lack of the yin-yang logo that was shown on the web picture. No big deal...it was still a great purchase.

Good Deal

My son started karate with a size 0 uniform and he outgrew it after a year. I purchased this uniform in a size 1 recently and was fairly satisfied compared to how much it cost. My son wears a size 7/8 and this uniform fit great in the waist, but was long in the arms and legs. But... after repeat washing in cold water and drying.. it shrunk up a little and was fine. Def. recommend this product to the karate mom/dad that doesn't want to pay $30-$40 at their kid's karate school. Material is pretty soft too ; )

Great Value

My twin 8 year old wear this gui. I like that it is light weight as it allows them more movement. I suppose as they advance, a heavier weight would be recommended for protection. My sons are yellow belts in Karate and this is just the right uniform for them at this stage. I highly recommend products from this store. Ordering and delivery has always been easy and accurate.

Although this is a student uniform, the sizes are essentially the same as any other uniform. So my best advice is to scroll to the bottom of this page and check out the sizing charts. You'll be able to match up the uniform sizes with their body sizes.

good for beginner

this is a great gi for the beginning student. At first it is a little stiff so make sure to loosen it up a little before wearing it to your next class. the price is good too, just in case you decide not to stick with it. don't always trust the sizing chart. ask your sensei what size you should get first.

Good product for the money

The only "strange" thing about the uniform is that the fabric thickness leans more toward that of a jeans shirt but some kids may actually like a lighter feel.

Wonderful uniform for my beginner son, and an excellent value for the money. Definitely follow the suggestions for washing it in the delicate cycle & hanging to dry and you will have no wrinkles. The gi was shipped much faster than anticipated, which I really appreciated. I will buy from Karate Depot again. Thank you!

Hi KW. Generally the materials are the same but TKD uniforms often have coloration on the cuffs and lapels that karate uniforms won't.

Great Uniform, Great Price

Uniforms arrived exactly as ordered. I've ordered from KD for 3 years in a row now for kids uniforms. We ordered big this time, but the uniforms normally keep well and so I imagine these will last as long as the kids will fit in them. Can't beat the price, especially since it is a full uniform and belt. Will order from them again. The only way it could have been better is if they came and measured my kids themselves

Great purchase

I was nervous about making an online purchase for my children because I wasn't sure the size would be accurate. But their uniforms fit perfectly! The only thing that I can say is just don't put them in the dryer. Just wash and hang to dry. I have no other complaints. I will order more as they grow out of these. My children are ages 2,6,8,10.
