Makiwara for a 3 year old? You're kidding, right?

Square Hand Target

I got this for my son Tre', 3 years old, whose taking Tae Kwon Do to actually have a striking surface. Tre' needs work on proper punching. This little, child/toddler, Karate-ka, makiwara pad is excellent!

Nowhere near as intimidating as some of the dojo pads, it's obvious little ones are engaged by this pad. It's an optimal size to use for punching, strikes, and kicking. HA! HA! Holding the pad JUST RIGHT as my son kicked it, then letting the pad fly off my hand, followed by making over his, "Fantastic kick! Wow!" Absolutely made his home practice time, AND - - as SOON as Mommy got home from work, there was of course meeting Mommy at the door. Followed by immediately gushing forth with how, "I kicked my new pad so hard, Daddy couldn't hold it! Daddy had to chase my new pad down! So I kicked it again and it flied off Daddy again!"

Obviously, a great practice tool.

Playing cards to learn self-defense

Self Defense Playing Cards

I bought these thinking a simple card game like "Go Fish" might help my 3 year old with his Tae Kwon Do.
Using the cards, making a game out of learning moves, has been an outstanding training aide for Tre', my son. Playing his, "Karate cards," has been fantastic memory tools for him, helped him "see" (get a correct mind picture) of blocks, kicks, punches and strikes, and improved his effort and technique (for a three year old.)
However, the point I want to make, for a toddler, or elementary school child, making a game out of their practice sessions at home (and they MUST practice at home to gain any ground and self-confidence) all the way through adults . . . again as memory aides, drill cards (flash cards) or whatever the individual develops.
