Total Fitness Pedometer

Hello,

I am looking for a pedometer to buy. I cannot spend more than 50 dollars. Basically, I don't get how they all work. I see online there are literally thousands of different pedometers, and they range in price from 6.00 dollars to 600 dollars. I have also been told there are several different types: the kind you put on your wrist as a watch, the kind you put on your hips on your shorts, the kind you put around your waist as a band, and the kind you clip to your shoelaces.

Here is my question: I have been told by people working at a fitness center that in order to use a pedometer for RUNNING and not for simply walking steps, it MUST contain a foot/ankle pod in order to sense all of the stride lengths you take from one step to another. They told me also that the types of pedomters that you put on your waist but don't have a foot pod will NOT be capable of tracking your distance when jogging, because those are only meant to detect the motion of your hips and can count the steps you take, but since a person's stride length changes when he/she changes speed (from walking to jogging) that will cause the distance to change as well, so if you use a pedomter without a foot/ankle pod it will tell you the number of total steps you go, but you need to know in advance how far you walk with each and every step. Thus, you cannot really run with them because that screws up your stride length.

So basically, I am looking for a pedomter that is no more expensive than fifty dollars, and it needs to be the type that measures the distance you go each time you use it, so that I can go from walking to jogging and sprinting and back to jogging, etc. in one time period without having to constantly put in a new stride length. Are there any pedomters you have which are capable of accurately telling you how FAR you run with them even if you change your speed periodically? And, does that type of pedometer require a foot/ankle pod to function properly?
