2nd pair

Discipline Martial Arts Shoes

Bought a pair in 2005 and wear them almost every day for tai chi practice. The soles are still OK. They are a little narrow, or my feet are a little wide? so the sides split at my little toe so I've repaired the uppers a few times but really find it hard to believe they've lasted so long. They are very comfortable, with a thin sole that gives a good feel of the ground. A circular tread on the sole at the ball of the foot makes spin-kicks easier. I'd prefer all black to the white accents - they don't stay white in the real world.

Answer to: I was wondering if these shoes would be able to handle the wear and tear of running and long jogs . . .
Discipline Martial Arts Shoes

These are not designed to withstand the stresses of regular running. The issue would be insole wear as much as outsole wear. Nor are the outsoles designed to withstand the abrasion of running - not the right material. If you have a fore-foot strike and NO heel-strike these would wear out pretty quickly. If you have heel-strike your knees will wear out quickly - there is NO heel cushion (great for MA, OK for fore-foot strike, terrible for heel-strike). I walk around in these and they are really comfortable. I run bare-foot (fore-foot strike), and might wear my old pair for running, and have beaten them pretty hard on a bag, but I think they would blow apart pretty quickly with regular running. Run barefoot, then put your shoes on!
