Truth in Sizing

Shock Doctor Shockskin Forearm Guard

Here is the data from the chart on the package to assist those of you thinking about buying these:

Based on Forearm 'circumference'

Youth = 7" to 8"
Small = 8" to 9"
Medium = 9" to 10"
Large = 11" to 12"

Note that the measurement starts 2 inches from your elbow tip. Find that spot and measure 'around' your arm.

Also, the material at the top that says Shock Doctor on it is really at least an inch wider than it appears in this picture. Not a big deal if you don't mind folding it over, or don't mind it enclosing your elbow.

I ordered the large and they fit a little tight, but I expect that because I lift and my arms are a little bigger than the large size. Pretty cool looking and they offer good padding where you need it.

Good for training

Bokken

I bought 2 of these with the thoughts we'd expand our class to include sword training as I had received my masters cert in swords recently. Well, everyone watching a couple of us doing some very basic sword training with these are amazed and excited at the opportunity that is coming soon in our martial arts class. (Tae Kwon Do, but we are including a lot of Kung Fu, Judo, Akido, and other mixed martial arts...) I'll be buying these in bulk soon as a gift to the class and to the students so that they can learn sword play in our dojang... (free)

Pretty good bokken

Bokken

The bokken is sturdy and so far has taken plenty of hard hits with only superficial damage to the finish. Note, the one issue I had was the difficulty of putting the hand guard on. The hand guards are not cut to fit very well and required a significant amount of filing the inside hole before it could be forced on.

While that was annoying, it is something I can live with because I'd rather it be too tight than not tight enough.

Answer to: is this weapon illegal in California.
Training Ninja Sword

It's a plastic stick. How in the world could it be illegal? Numero uno, it ain't a weapon. It's a plastic stick. You couldn't hurt someone with it if you were actively trying, other than a couple bruises. Then their mom would beat you up.... Buy it, it's cool...

Answer to: I am looking for forearm guards for full contact sparring. Will this shock doctor forearm guard protect my forearms from . . .
Shock Doctor Shockskin Forearm Guard

In the padded area, yes. Not they are only padded where you see it in the pic. The rest is a spandex tube that covers your arm and offers zero padding.

Master Black Belt

Suffering through the stiffness of a new black belt is part of the character of earning it. Washing a black belt cheats you of the opportunity to make it more pliable by hard work, not a washing machine.

Patience Grasshopper, though hard to tie at first, with a few months of hard work, the belt becomes part of you...
