Octagonal Sais

Chrome Sais

I got the 21 1/2" sais as I have a little bit longer arms & my weapons trainer says the ends need to come past the elbow for complete cover of forearm & also elbow strikes w/the tip sticking out past the elbow.

These sais are absolutely solid. Very well balanced. I had another 19" pair I gave to my Renshi as he is shorter & they fit him better. I actually like this new pair more as the yoku are squared off & not rounded. I found that I have more control of the the 90 degree yoku over the rounded yoku.

My only complaint is the handle wraps. The wraps themselves are ok, but they are secured by the worst/cheapest black tape that comes off immediately. I unwrapped & re-wrapped tighter, but used clear fingernail polish to secure the tape & leather. I actually had to re-apply polish just this morning for the 2nd time as the tape is coming off. I will eventually get rid of this pathetic tape & find a better way to secure the leather, but this working for now. Really love these weapons, just wish I could magically be an expert with them!

Awesome Nunchaku

Traditional Octagon Nunchaku

I got the 14". They are solid pieces of wood that are very durable & hurt like the dickens when you hit yourself practicing. My left hand is nowhere near as coordinated as my right & I continue to hit my right elbow when practicing. 2 strikes & I have to put them down & I am not going very fast trying to instill muscle memory. I drop them continuously on concrete floor as I practice in my shop & there is almost no sign of damage to the hard wood.

My only complaint is the strings that come with them are crap & entirely too long for traditional usage. I simply replaced them with paracord at the length for my liking. I practice daily for at least 15 mins, or whenever I can get the spare time & I love them; great balance & sturdy as can be. Good weapons.

21.5" Chrome Octogan

Chrome Sais

Recently begun tutelage under certified Okinawan kobujitsu-ka. Was using 19", but found needed 21.5" to cover forearm. These longer sais seem to "twirl" easier as the longer length offers better balance during the twirl. Only complaint is the leather wrap is crap. The leather is fine, but it is "taped" on w/the worst tape - so cheap for such nice sais. Took tape off & tightened the the leather around the handle then secured with clear fingernail polish. (my grandfather always used polish on fishing pole eyes, what gave me the idea!) Will see if it holds. SO EXCITED to get to practice bunkai with these!

Solid Wood

Traditional Octagon Nunchaku

The bottom half is solid wood, can tell the weight difference when practicing as it seems to help momentum in maneuvers. Very well constructed & seems very durable, will begin to test in bunkai this week. Not speed chucks for kata, these are for application/self defense. Only complaint would be the nylon cordage is a little weak for my taste. Will redo with paracord once these begin to fray. Overall highly impressed w/these out of the box - if they only came w/paracord....

Does this sword have a full tang or does it stop at the handle?

Disappointed: Warped out of Box

Straight Hardwood Bo

I can say I was very excited to purchase this bo. It is the heaviest/thickest I could find. I want a few of the heaviest to have for both practice & self-defense, if need be. So, I purchased this one d/t being the heaviest. The order was delivered before it was said to with the tracking #, which is great. I pulled it out of the container & immediately I could tell one end of the bo is severely warped. My instructor can get them for me from my dojo for half of the cost, but I am not sure it will be as heavy, so I wanted to give Karate Depot a chance. Unless I can get a replacement, as I see on some of these reviews that the customer service seems great, I will not purchase again from this company. I am also in need of a new gi & was considering purchasing from here, but will wait to see how the company remedies the bo situation. There are also 2 rough spots on the bo that feel like they could slice my hand if moved just right.

Answer to: Does this sword have a full tang or does it stop at the handle?
Sharpened Ninja Sword

I assumed from the price that it would not be a full tang - a half tang is good enough. I just want it to not fall apart if I do some air practice with it as I am now learning sword techniques. I do understand that it cuts fruit very well, though??? :-)

Answer to: Hey my length from the outside of my elbow tip to my middle finger tip is 18". I want the . . .
Chrome Sais

Many out there would disagree that the tip MUST be past the elbow to clearly protect the full arm & also allow for a stab w/an elbow thrust strike. If the tip does not protrude past the elbow, one could be struck on the elbow trying to execute a block. I can verify this being struck by a bo on the tip of my elbow during bunkai w/sais that were 19", not the proper 21.5" for me personally.
