5'11" 260 lbs right bo?

I am 5 feet 11 inches and I weigh 260 lbs. Will this Bo be a good fit for me?

Yes, a 6 foot bo is appropriate for your height. This bo also has good weight, so you can expect durability, solid impact on strikes, and a decent workout when manipulating it.

Strong bamboo beautiful finish

Solid strong bamboo bo with a nice finish that looks great during practice or on display. Mine arrived with a hairline crack near the end which I hope doesn't get bigger or splinter. This is my second elite bamboo bo and the first one had no hairline cracks so I'm somewhat disappointed.

Hi, In consideration of not waiting to get more details with my son's kung fu headmaster, are these common for the staffs used in Kung Fu "choy Li Fut"? I need to order for my kids.

I believe this bo might be a bit heavier and less flexible than is typical in kung fu. White wax would be good, except we only have 4ft at the moment. More flexible bamboo tends to be used.

Hi Samplecraft. The ideal bo height for you would be around 6'3", however a standard 6 foot staff is also acceptable. The best bo for you will depend on what you need it for (kata, contact, etc). This striped bamboo bo is good all around as it can resist a lot of punishment and not splinter.

How much does this bo weigh? and will it hold up to a beating in sparring another staff?

This bo is actually quite good for contact. The bamboo tends to slightly compress when getting hit instead of splintering, which makes it useful for repeated striking. The weight is slightly lighter than red oak.

Bo length

I'm not sure what size to buy. I'm 5'4". The 5 ft bo seems too short but the 6 ft bo is definitely too long in my hands and I scrape the ground with it. Should I buy a 6 ft and cut it down to match my height? I worry though that buying a tapered bo will be a moot point if I end up having to cut 4 inches off each end to get it down to 5'4". Would trimming it down to 5'8" or 5'6" be better?

Personally I'm about 5'6" and i use a 6 ft bo, it's good for me, maybe that would help.

Rule of Thumb is to have the Staff aprox. between 1" and 1.5" longer than your height. Hope this help.

According to my 5th degree black belt instructor, appropriate length is at your eye level, no longer. You're always better to have too short a staff than too long. Depending on the area where you are using it, a longer staff may be ineffective.

Didn't Live Up to Expectations

The staff has little to no flex and not to say that it is heavy, but it was not nearly as light as I was expecting it to be. The quality was good and it looks nice but it wasn't what I was looking for.

Bow type

I am just beginning the study of staff. Am an older adult. What type of bow is best?

Well, there are two main staff types Bo and Jo. Jo is 4.18 feet long and can be referred to as the short staff. The Bo is longer as it is around six feet. If you use a Jo at your school get a Jo for home. Next you need to find the weight you desire. Lighter staffs are great for katas but break easier in combat and vice versa. So it depends on what your school can teach you and how you use the bow.

Hi Axel. Yes this bo is real and has a nice feel to it. It isn't as hefty as red oak or jatoba, but can still deal out some good impact.
