    Best Choice?

    I am looking for a bo, that can be used in both kata and training. Sturdy and strong are a must! In class I prefer using the tapered style, but if this style is not going to hold up I am open to straight. Opinions and Recommendations?

    I would recommend the tapered hardwood style for you: wp-bo-04. It's reliable and durable but still manageable in weight.

    Sturdy and Graceful

    I am well pleased with this red oak tapered bo, the six foot long bo. It's got a good heft to it, solid and strong, yet not heavy. It's perfect for me, and well worth the price. Good buy!

    Difference between tapered and non tapered?

    I am looking to purchase a red oak bo staff such as this one but I was wondering what the difference is between the tpered bo and the non tapered bo. A little help please?

    In general, the tapered bo have a more centralized pivot point which allows them to spin a little easier. However the tradeoff of less material on the end makes for a bo that is a bit more susceptible to breaking as well as a slight loss in centrifugal power.

    Yes this bo can take good contact, although the taper does make it a bit more vulnerable than the straight red oak.

    It's got a little flex, but red oak is a fairly sturdy wood. Not nearly as flexible as rattan.

    What is the actual diameter of this bo? What does it taper down to?

    This bo has a diameter of 1 1/8" in the center and it tapers down to about 1" on the edges.

    This bo is strong, light, and easy to control. I thought the glossy material that makes it smooth, but I was wrong.

    P.S., Get it in 6 ft. It's much better than 5 ft.
