Compared to an Oak Bo it is extremely light. Good for younger kids or when you just want something lighter to workout with. Or if you are sparring and don't want to kill each other. An oak Bo accidentally whacked upside the head hurts like crazy but this doesn't kill you if you accidentally get hit with it. I've used mine a lot and prefer it over the heavier Bo when I am trying to really get a new move down. But realize it flexes a lot more than say an oak Bo would. Which is not necessarily a bad thing just something to consider. I actually like the somewhat 'whipping' motion I can get out of it. And I agree with the guy below that these are tough but they do dent easily.  Permalink

The Rattan Bo was a perfect match for my 7 year old son who has his Black Belt in Taekwondo. He was so excited when it arrived. The Bo arrived earlier than I expected. Thanks!!!  Permalink

When the bo came it was warped on one end and had a six inch section that looked like it had been carved out of the other end.   Permalink

Good Bo staff. Weight varies because I have used many of these same exact staffs. This is a rattan bo without the skin of the rattan wood. In general this staff is lighter than the rattan bo's with the skin on them. The rattan skin bo's do not get dented as easily as these. Takes a very good beating but, it gets dented very easily, that's the only downside about it. Both types of bo's (rattan bo w/skin and w/out skin) have their ups and downs. I recommend this staff to parishioners of all ages. Very good bo.  Permalink
