Product Description

Red oak construction
Triangular top edge

The Eku (or Kai) Bo is a traditional part of Okinawan kobudo. Used in a culture heavily reliant on fishing, this boat oar could be transformed into a devastating weapon at a moment's notice.

This Eku model is constructed out of high quality red oak. The handle is smooth and cylindrical, branching out into a flattened oar head. The top of the oar features a triangle point to enhance thrusting. The bo is well balanced to provide added momentum for topside attacks.

nice but ligther than expected

I use to compete KOBUDO, and there are some rules about diameter length and weight, in this case i had to add some extra weight to get the desire weight (and of course official weight) it arrive on time and with nice finish. Permalink

I would like to purchase an Eku (Kai Bo). I see that the only size offered by Karate Depot is 5' ie 60". I myself am only 5' tall, so I think the ideal size for me would be just a bit smaller, perhaps 4'6".
Does anybody know where I might be able to get a nice Eku of the appropriate size - or have a comment on the correct size for me? Thanks for any help. Permalink

Hi Tori. unfortunately we can only offer two general sizes, 5' and 6'. For this particular item, you could cut the handle down and resand the edge so that it is more perfectly suited to your size.

Red Oak Eku Bo

The Eku arrived on time and in good shape. Karate Depot did a great job, as usual. The eku itself was not terribly impressive. It does the job, of course, but the finish (i.e. sanding) was poor and the sizes they sell do not conform with what we believe to be the standard.Karate Depot sells 5 ft and 6 ft ekus. The standard is 5 ft 4" (160cm). So, I have to cut it down in a way that maintains the appropriate balance. Fortunately, I can do that, but it is annoying to have to.
