These sticks are very light and feel frail. They would be good for chldren and/or younger persons who are just beginning their martial arts training. But shouldn't be marketed or advertised as acceptable training sticks for adult martial artists who train hard and with force because they break fairly easily when striking effectively and with purpose.

Disappointed in Sticks and Service

I ordered 4 of these sticks based on the reviews and price. I will say the shipping was prompt and the packaging was very good. When I took them out of the box, they looked good; all same diameter, with only one of the sticks being significantly heavier than the other three. However, I broke one the first night of training. I sent an email to customer support (nine days ago) with pictures but no response. I called customer service (three days ago) and after being on hold for quite some time was given the opportunity to leave a message which I did. Still no call back. I broke the second stick last night and have no desire to bring the other two into the school. Very disappointed in product and lack of responsiveness by Karate Depot.

Hey Randy - Sorry we let you down on this one. Normally we attend to any customers who call us right away (assuming it's normal business hours), but we must have slipped up and lost your message.

I will follow up with our customer service squad and see if we can't get this straightened away.

Follow up: Karate Depot and I finally connected. Customer Service team was very responsive to my complaint and has replaced the sticks with better quality items. So far, so good. Thanks, guys!!!

Love these sticks....

I got these for my 9 year old son who is taking kali. The stick are light weight but very sturdy. The both came in perfect condition. No warping. My son loves them as they are the right size and weight. For <$20, they are a great buy.

Is it hollow inside?

Hi Mitch. No these are not hollow. However rattan is a light wood so it won't feel the same as oak, spruce, ash, etc.

For the hardcore Kali or Escrima player, these sticks might disappoint you. They are overly lightweight, not particular dense, and seem fragile. They also lack any nodes, which is ideal. Surprisingly, they're durable. At least for now. After an hour of stick work, they were only slightly dented and have yet to splinter or break. And because they are light, they're easier to carry and handle in smaller hands. These sticks are ideal for beginner Filipino combative students, kids or smaller adults. For the price, they are of decent value.

what a joke

Might as well go to the hardware store and buy a dowel, because that is all these are.....a dowel. The website gives you an impression that they are more than that, with the shading to make it look like bamboo style. They are nothing but splintering dowels. I am very disappointed, and will not shop here again. What you see is not what you get.

Escrima Sticks

I bought 2 escrimas and was surprised about the beating they took. I spent two and a half ours outside dueling with my friends. They had bokkens and I had one escrima in each hand. No damage but it made a lot of noise with every hit.

Great stick for this beginning student.

I ordered two of these escrima sticks, one of which I took to an intense eight-hour Kali seminar. It is now dented (has a hand-hammered look on the striking end) and slightly frayed where two of the nodes meet, but still usable for a good many months of regular training, I'm sure. It's nice and light-weight, and feels great in the hand. The second stick seems to be harder and doesn't dent as easily, so durability may be in the luck of the draw on this one.
