Not as good as previous units

These are not the same quality, as the practice sticks I had ordered from you people several years ago. They are now, slimmer and more flexible...almost a toy compared to the previous ones. For training new students, I'm not very impressed with these, so please get back your previous manufacturer or supplier as these are sub-standard.

not bad for $8

bought this for my 5 yr old thinking it would be super light and it's heavier than the reg escrima stick I bought my 9 yr old. he's still able to maneuver it easy enough but I wish I would have gotten him the bamboo one. it bends fairly easy which I suppose is a good thing if they're using it as a fighting tool in class.

Escrima, or kali, is a filipino based art. Kali utilizing single stick, double stick, and knife work as well as some open hand techniques. If you want to see it in action you can probably head over to youtube for some demonstrations. The sticks themselves are used for self defense as well as flow work.

Theatrical uses

I bought three Foam Escrima sticks for stage weapons in my improvised Zombie play. They have proven to be safe, dependable and actor-proof (meaning that the actors have not found a way to break them yet!)

foam escrima sticks

I have found these sticks to be quite nice for practicing in the house and blocking practice. However the properties that make them nice for this make them too pliable to practice disarms, compressions, and locks with. Good product

Great Product.

I use these all the time when teaching my students. I have been using these for several years now. If you take care of them and treat them right they will last and are well worth the money.

Black not blue

I have ordered these and practiced with them myself and I think they are great for kids though foam they do give a sting and don't let one forget the sting of a weapon. But my only criticism is the picture is of blue escrimas and my kids did order of course based on the look and two black plane foam sticks came. I'm not complaining as they serve a purpose but someone else might. You have to sell what your advertising.

Hmm, thanks for pointing this out. We'll look into whether or not the maker has made a permanent design switch.

Like it. Tape the tips for more solid or better sting. Has held up well.

Go ahead and buy at least 4-10

At our dojo we do a lot of weapons. The decision to include the use of foam safety sticks was not an easy one. I did not want to create an atmosphere where people just "played around" or "sparred" instead of remembering how dangerous weapons training really is. I have to say that I am glad that I made this decision. These foam training aids are great for beginners who are still learning control and finesse. You can read an article and watch a demo video of the product at the link at the end. The first day that I used them in class, they worked so well that they literally paid for themselves. The value they give to the training they are used for far excedes the $6 price tag. This is a great deal for these tools.

all you need is headgear, eye protection and gloves and your ready for full contact.
the sticks hold up to abuse and hurt just enough to get a realistic reaction from your opponent or yourself.
i had expected to use this for drills and thought it would be too flimsy to fight with.what a nice surprise.
you wont get more bang for your buck.
oh,after dealing with other distributors i have to say karate depot is awsome.
-they send you what you ordered.
-it comes sooner than they say it will.
-and while some items are marked a bit high,2.95 for shipping is unbeatable.

Are these escrimas plain blue or do they have a design such as a dragon on them?

Why is this escrima so small? What good is this going to do against a Katana?

These sticks are terrible!!
VERY flimsy...and they easily bend into the letter "C" after only a little bit of contact training.

Best to avoid these sticks completely.

The shipping weight is about 1 lb, so you can assume roughly half of that is the shipping material itself.

Escrima Stick (Foam)

Hello, I just want to let any interested martial artists and instructors that I give the Escrima Stick (Foam) five stars for quality and essential purpose. When I use these, my students advance in technique, because they fear less about being injured, especially my older students. No one wants broken fingers or an injured hand from an accident. Especially when you need your hands and fingers for every day life. Students are going to make mistakes while practicing with each other. So I find these (Foam) Escrima sticks so essential to protecting your students from injury, which by the way really helps in student retention and they withstand a heck of a lot of abuse. Karate Depot.com has offered yet again, quality products for very low prices, so I really have to give them the credit and a Five Star rating. Instructors, I find this product essential, and a "Must Have" training aid, and an A+ product! I Highly Recomend this product. Thank you again Karate Depot.com for your professional and quality service. Sincerely Guro & Head Instructor Silvano

Great product. Very durable practice stick. I have already used it for hours worth of practice and it has held up well for a $5.95 product. Don't think that this stick has no bite to it though. A strike with it will let you know that you have been hit (not like a wood escrima by any means). A little weighty to swing, but this does help when transitioning back to a real escrima.

I use these for home training, and I find them much better than those at my Dojahng which are much less solid. They are quite weighty, and you can get in very solid hits. That being said, if you hit someone with them, it's going to hurt. So if these are being used by little kids, you may want to go with something lighter and more padded.

Well weighted and good padding. I wouldn't purposefully hit someone full speed with this as it would still hurt, but I can go at about 75% easily and if I do glance them it shouldn't leave a mark.

I bought this foam escrima sticks and they are fine when it comes to practicing. The only shortcomings that I see is that the foam makes it much thicker than I would like. I also realized that while I would love to learn the art of escrima there aren't any practitioners in my area and I would have been better off learning with real wooden escrima sticks which are thinner and would give me the ability to increase my speed. Don't get me wrong the foam sticks are great but unless you are practicing against a live opponent it's pointless as it would be very difficult to hurt yourself. Also the sticks bend easily when you strike a hard object.

great to train with

I ordered 8 of these and have been teaching classes with them all week. They are weighted very well for their size and are east to use. Most foam weapons you purchase are weighted poorly so they are unrealisticly used.... Great realism!!!
