I would wrap one end with cloth friction tape then on the end you finished with the wrap I apply liquid tape so the seem doesn't peel back. The wrap starts about an 1 1/2" from the butt end and is about 8" wrapped. Home Depot has the cloth friction tape and liquid electrical tape (3M) and Lowes should have it too. Foto attached.

I have had this escrima stick for a while and it is really great it hasn't dented or fractured. One thing is it is slippery I advise you put duck tape or something on it's handle. all together it is a great weapon!

Great Sticks

Nice color. Very durable. Most of the time instead of splintering, the wood just dents.

Great for partner training

This type of wood is serious business. I bought two and have been training with a partner for about two months about 5-6 times a week and have given them a beating. I've never tried hitting a tree or anything full force, so I don't know if they would stand against that, but it's not like a human is as dense as a tree anyway. They are heavier than rattan so it's not a good choice for sparring.

However, they are absolutely the best choice for training. You can go buy dowel rods at home depot for $3 each and keep replacing them after they break down or just put the money in for these and never have to replace them.

human bones are stronger than not just trees, but airplane aluminum. Not that you'd want to break bones with it... right?...

Cool stick...

I like the feel of this and indeed it is stronger than you would think. But like others said wrap the end. I used blue electrical tape and that looks neat and does the job. I don't know what that reviewer is talking about as far as flaws. The thing is smooth as silk and white, maybe he thought he was reviewing a different one.

a few flaws

Ok, I realize this was turned from natural wood, but this stick has many flaws. I was afraid it would shatter upon impact but it withstood a thrashing against a large tree so I guess its OK. the flaws are so obvious and ugly I had to cover it in vinyl tape to hide them. If not for strength of the wood I would have returned this one but I believe they may all have minor flaws. I don't use this stick to fight with I just show it to my class to let them know how strong a real escrima stick actually is vs. he padded one we use.

just purchased one of these waxwood escrima sticks, it a perfect size and weight. As stated below by karatekid2, it is slippery, especially in the colder says when the hands are dried out. I wrapped the handle as usual. Foto below.

Very good quality

I bought this a while ago and it has always been very durable. Because it's made from white wax wood, it will dent before it breaks and even denting it is hard. I don't use it anymore because me and my friends tried to wrap it with a nunchaku so the opponent couldn't hold it and my friend twisted it out of the chain which left long grooves in it. As long as you don't use it on a nunchaku chain it should hold up to whatever you do.

The best I have seen

I like these escrimas because they are a perfect weight for spins and won't bounce out of your hands. They are balanced and the color is pleasing. After I purchased them the style became very popular at the dojo I go to.
