The side spikes are set so far apart that using them for a punch would most likely result in a broken finger or two. I used a hacksaw and file, leaving only one spike, and now they're perfect. The finish does come off under heavy abrasion, such as a file (or bone). Basically, take the key ring and one spike off, and you have yourself a very nice self-defense weapon! Permalink

They're a little big and not as easy to get in and out of your pants pocket (or purse) as a regular kubotan, and the black finish wears off relatively quickly, leaving behind dull grey iron. However, these are quite fearsome self-defense/offensive weapons, and they are extremely sturdy. Can't really go wrong. Ordering a 2nd one. Permalink
