Product Description
    • Longer upper provides additional support
    • Made from thick canvas and rubber
    • Traditional split-toe design and ridged rubber sole improve traction
    • Velcro closure along the back of the boot
    • Also available in a short version
    • Men's sizes. Women, order one size down

These tabi boots feature a longer upper made from thick canvas material to provide additional support. The toe and heel of the boot feature reinforced stitching. The sole is rubber with a traditional split-toe design, this enables the shoe to enhance the natural traction of the foot while protecting it from the elements. The design also reduces the noise emitted from walking and running. Also available in a short version.

These shoes are designed to fit very tightly around the foot. If you would prefer a more comfortable, sneaker-like fit, consider ordering one size larger than what you would normally wear.

These boots are easy to put on, stay on well, and have great grip. Don't get it in too large of a size or else your ankle will slide. The only bad thing is that you can't move your big toe at all.

Awesome tabi

Pros

Very comfortable, once you get used to the separated toes they are more comfortable than most shoes I've owned
Excellent build quality and materials
Bundled in the ninja uniform deal they are quite inexpensive for the quality

Cons

A bit tight, I ordered the largest size and they just barely fit me, it was a bit uncomfortable for a while until I broke them in, and I know of a lot of people with much larger feet than me.

Ninja Parkour

These really give you good grip when it comes to balance and climbing 12 feet walls, the bottom gives good grip and its very flexible, however the material does get wasted, just take care of it.

I like my Tabi Outdoor boots

I wear a US size 91/2D and ordered the size 10, which is really a 43 and depending on the manufacturer I wear a 43 or 44. Some time back I had ordered size 9 and 10 Kung Fu Shoes and wear neither as they don?t stay on my feet. There is no such problem with these Tabies. I was undecided on the short or outdoor model and inquired about the height of each and was told that the short came to just above the ankle and the outdoor about half way up the calf, both of which I had already figured out. For those interested these are 15? high. ?15?.? requires four key strokes, that?s less than the reply that I received and telling me virtually nothing. I had concerns about the shafts making the Tabi stiffer than I wanted but that concern was needless. The entire boot is light and very flexible and is the next thing to being barefoot, but with a more protection. The only complaint I have is in the shaft, they fasten with a Velcro strip in the back running vertically which severely hampers the adjustment. The shafts are too large in circumference for my liking, not coming close to fitting my calf, giving room for debris to fall in and flap around noisily when I walk. Rather than having the rear veridical Velcro strip replace it with 2, 3 would be better, horizontal strips which would permit more adjustment I feel would be better. Rather than using the Velcro I wrap the loose sides around my leg and secure with 3, 2 will work, black latex tubes that I got from China and from which made a band. That really makes the boot feel like part of me rather than some attachment. Also, reading the posts before buying I saw several people inquire about the boot and water, with comments saying they are cloth and implying ?sorry?. I find this not the case. I sprayed them with a heavy duty water proofer aerosol twice then rubbed the grease that I waterproof my leather with into the seams and stitching. I have a wax that I use for my oil skins that I may use later, but the grease is working fine and is easier to apply. In the old days before such wax linseed oil was used, but this has a tendency to dry out and crack. I held the boot under the shower for 30 seconds. At that time I thought that I felt water coming through and stopped. On examination I could find no water inside and believe that what I felt was a change in temperature that I mistook for water. I?ve walked through wet grass several times and the feet remained dry while water beaded on the boot. The soles offer excellent grip in the dry. However, be careful on a smooth wet surface. At present I am in Central America and it is the rainy season. I ordered the Tabi socks at the same time for hygienic reasons and also thought it might be beneficial to use one or two for padding as I sometimes do on other boots to tweak the fit. I found the boot fits well without a sock but could feel a slight slippage when I got active, a problem common to non-lice up boots. The sock eliminated that, or at least my ability to feel it. I am pleased with my purchase.

Any good for larping?

Well, my question is this. I am a larper and that means basically that I will be running around all day and night on almost all types of surfaces. Dirt, gravel, rock, grass, you name it! We also play rain or shine, so would these boots be able to handle water and mud? If you don't think they will, or they will just tear up from the neglect? I also need these shoes to keep me silent (considering I play and assassin), so will these be able to keep silent in these listed situations? If no to any of these questions, could you make any suggestions for what would be able to help me?

Hey Chris. These boots would be able to provide great traction and ankle support while playing. Unfortunately since the top of the boot is a canvas material it will soak up some mud and moisture.

As for silence, that's mostly a matter of how good your technique is vs the boots themselves.

These can tolerate outdoor use, but they are not water proof. The canvas material for the boot will absorb excess moisture, especially if rained on or if you step in puddles.

I'm thinking of getting a pair of these for work, where i am at times stuck outside with no shade. it gets up to 108 out here during the summer...will these be able to handle that temperature on concrete? last couple of pairs of shoes i had ended up splitting the soles clean off.

overall pretty cool

I'm happy with the boots, although at present I cannot wear them. The shoe itself is snug enough, but the Velcro enclosure was designed for people with huge ankles and calves (I guess most people with a size 12 shoe must upwards of 600 lbs). I tried for a couple of weeks to sew hooks fasteners, though it looked a goofy. I then took them to a shoe repair store to have them fixed, and they made it impossible to get my foot in. So now, I'm here with boots I can't put on, hoping an emergent ninja situation doesn't arise before tues when the store opens again.
All in all, they are really awesome shoes, though everyone's legs are different shapes. If you intend to walk on ceilings, as I do, you may have to put a little time into the enclosure. If it's just to walk around in, you're fine.

silence?

Ok so believe it or not I'm a teenage guy who is almost completely silent when walking around, no matter what type of shoe I am wearing. It's just how I walk and the fact I'm only 120 lbs probably helps. But the question is: if I am already almost completely silent in any shoe how silent are these shoes compared to others, or how silent will I be? Also!! It looks as though my foot is a bit over nine and half but not quite a ten so which size should I go for?
by: Cam

I would definitely go with the size 10 Cam. In regards to the silence thing - the soles are made out of pliable rubber (as opposed to hard rubber that clacks), so I think you would be in good shape.

Well worth it

I bought these boots last year. I wore them everyday since then, and used them for just about everything. They were a little large when I got them, but I was able to shrink them with the washer and dryer. After that they fit so well; really light and easily one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I put them through their paces with weight lifting, sports, practicing ninjutsu, and doing parkour. I even wore them around in the snow for hours, playing with my siblings and shoveling our ice rink from under that blizzard (Michigan - bleh). They held up very well, but they aren't very warm so either wear thick socks or keep moving. I had no problems with these boots until about two weeks ago when the outside edge of the velcro on the left boot came unsewn from the heel about an inch from the sole of the boot. I've sewn it back up and hope it lasts long enough until I can buy some more of these boots. I'm very satisfied with these boots. (Though laces would be better than velcro in my oppinion =I)

could you use these boots and the short tabi's for different forms of martial arts like tae kwon do?
by: paul

They wouldn't transfer particularly well to other arts like TKD. The rubber soles are made to grip and would make pivoting style kicks more difficult. Furthermore they aren't designed specifically to be mat safe, so they may scuff and dig in.

Lastly, they aren't suited for sparring as they possess no padding.

I think you have two good options. First, you can wait for size 10 to come back in stock, although I'm not certain when that will be.

Second, you can go with the 9. If for whatever reason they don't suit your needs, we'll arrange a full refund for you (you would just have to pay to ship them back to us).

What size do I need?

I wear a size 13 new balance tennis shoe. My foot measures 11" or 28cm using the standing on a ruler technique. What size Tabi Boot will fit me best?

Thanks

These tabi tend to run pretty close to normal athletic shoes, so I would generally recommend a 13 for you.

Do you generally purchase sneakers that are extra wide? If so you might find these tabi a bit constraining.

smaller sizes?

I usually wear a size 4 kids, or 5 women's (Canadian sizing)
If these are men's US, the 5 listed is morelike a women's 6 right?
Any hopes for a girl with tiny feet to find a pair?

That's right snap, a size 6-6.5 in women's is about a size 5 in mens. Therefore at the moment I don't think we have small enough for you. The short tabi DO have size 4 mens available though, which would be up your alley: wp-ni-13.

Inspirational!

Haha, these look sweet. I'm a Canadian techy that likes to dabble in all sorts of art forms as a hobby (sketching, digital manips, martial arts, creative writing...). I've been getting into fashion design a little bit lately (still can't sew, but I like to mix and match things I find). I tend to try and blend some traditional styled clothing with modern, and I have to say these boots totally inspired me to make a ninja-esque outfit! So a couple questions arise:

1. Has anyone worn these on day-to-day regular basis? Judging from what I've read, these would last a while, but just thought I'd ask for a more detailed answer, if there is one.

2. I'm a size 7 men's, but I read elsewhere that it was recommended to get a size larger for extra comfort, and again I read to get two sizes smaller. 0-o These sizes reflect American sizes, right (For some reason Canada's sizing reflect American, but are fractionally off). I just want to figure out the correct sizing is all, thanks!

Hey Nataku. The sizing is American, yes. For comfort I would recommend getting a half size or one size up from your normal shoe size. The only time I would go down is if you are prepping to do activity like climbing or parkour.

I have not worn these on a day to day basis, but I can tell you fairly confidently that they won't be quite as comfortable as regular shoes, although not terribly uncomfortable either.

Okay, thanks! If the comfort thing is due to the split toe, then I don't think I need to worry about that. I guess I'll just go with size 7 when I get my next usable paycheck, since it'll probably end up being a cross use outfit (socializing/sports).

Sorry that I posted this as an answer, I couldn't find a better way to do it. Thanks for the help okiken!

Female size

Hi there, I wanted to ask if the sizes you specify here are only men's US? I'm a female size 9 and I was wondering what men's size the would translate to. I believe it's 6 but I'm not quite sure.

Yes these are listed in men's sizes. I think your conversion would be closer to a size 7.

Well these tabi are pretty sweet. If you get your grades up I want you to come back here and post a picture of your report card. If the grades look good I'll give you a coupon code for these boots.

Well built

Now, these may not be the best thing for wearing on ice or snow, but they are very well constructed. The velcro holds together better then I thought it would; I have yet to have a boot come undone.
It did take me a little getting used to having the big toe seperated from the others but within a few minutes of walking around I hardly noticed. I do STRONGLY suggest getting the socks sold on this site to wear with these boots. I tried regular socks (tucking in the toe) but that was uncomfortable.
Unlike the Ninja uniform, I found these boots a bit cold...I live in Maine and it's fall now. To remedy this I play on wearing a pair of cut off socks (like those old leg warms they wore back in the 80's (GAWD!). lol

I choose the boot version over the shoe for more versatile weapon carrying options.

Ninja Tabi size UK 12

Hi there, I tried the size 12 UK/46 EU, and they are just too small. Are there any 13 UK/47 EU sizes? Do they even manufacture them in thsi size?

Hi Henk. A UK size 12 is roughly equivalent to a 12.5 in US sizes, which is the way we have them listed here. That being the case I recommend a US size 13 to compensate for the small size issue here.

Hi TT. A European size 39 should translate to an American Men's size 7.

Sorry we don't have 11 in at the moment! Hopefully we can restock soon. But I would say go with the 10. A little snugness is actually good with these as they conform to the feet when making hard cuts or climbing.

i have never bought a pair of tabi boots before so should i get a size to small and are the short tabi boots better

If you are an exact match size-wise, just get your proper size. However, if you are a size and a half, go with the half size smaller.

The short tabi are more breathable but offer less full ankle support.

Sorry wmak, these are black only. Most ninjutsu clothing is black so as to assist in the stealth and night time aspects of the art.

Ninjana - if you want them to be snug during climbing or training I would go with the 11. If they simply don't fit let us know, we'll get an exchange for you.

Lulu - go with the size that is closest to your regular shoe size, and if it isn't quite right just send it on back and we'll get you a different size. no problemo.

fitting

I am asize 10w.The last pair I bought about 13 years ago had to have extra material put in so it would fit around my ankle and calf. Do these come big enough or are they made to fit small legs?

Hey Maverick. These are a pretty standard size, so my suspicion would be that if you needed some extra material for your old pair you might need to do that again here.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Thank god i am a sewer for if not these boots would not stand up to light walking let alone sparing. I have sent back this product 3 times and each time they split at the back seam by the Velcro... and once repaired the Velcro unravels and falls off.

Dont wast your money on this product.
