Chuck-in-a-stick

Great product, I got the 24'. I was expecting to 'get what I paid for', and hoped for the best. Was beyond my expectations. Like everyone says, the chain does rattle when inside, stealth this is not. The end the chain goes in is a small hole, on it is a disk that prevents the swivel from coming out. I tried to catch the swivel in the lip of the hole, but it pops into place every time, so you can expect the chain length to be the same every time. It would be difficult, at best to put anything down inside to quite it, if you did get it in there, it probably won't come back out. The chuck itself is well constructed, if you held a mag lite(w/o batteries) it almost feels the same. These are fast chucks and lighter than wood, but not as fast as speed chucks built for the purpose. The ends are knurled for grip. Make sure to tighten well before using in stick form or it will loosen up after a couple of swings and could possibly damage the threads. It takes about 3 or 4 twist to open, one if you roll wrap your arms around it. It goes together very much like a pool stick. Lastly, would like say karatedepot.com delivered as I expected.

Padding

Is there any kind of protective padding I can get with these nunchucks? I know that I will knock myself out without it. I just need some kind of cushioned foam grip to put on them.

There is no protective covering for this particular item. If you want to train with padded nunchaku, check out this item: wp-nu-30.

Hi Brent. Not normal, just happens when interest in an item spikes unexpectedly and depletes our stock before we can refill. Apologies for the delay!

Hi meatl, yes these could be used for self defense, although it is important that you investigate the concealed weapon laws in your state. In fact, some states like California have strict legislation on nunchaku of all variety.

Well we hope find you something here that you like meatl! I'd like to recommend two different options. The first is built for speedy spinning: wp-nu-64, the second is very traditional: wp-nu-62. So, depending on what kind of demo you want to put on, choose accordingly!

simple remedy

I have not tried it yet but there is a simple fix for the nagging clanging of the chain inside the chucks when retracted. Find a neoprene/spandex sleeve that can be stretched over the chuck handles and chain. This should do a pretty good job of sound muffling and not have any adverse effect on the operation and flexibility. It probably won't eleminiate it but make a vastly improved difference.

decent...

The idea of these are a lot better than actually having them. The rattling is annoying and the swivels aren't what I would call perfect. But all in all a decent chuck.

If your a beginner then I would suggest a wooden style with a cord, or perhaps a wooden one with a chain.

Very Nice

This is a nice set with good weight. The only problem I had was when I tried to use the nunchucks in batton form...the chain rattles A LOT and it is quite annoying after a while. Otherwise this is a nice set of heavy metal chucks, and good for daily workouts.

Different, Durable, and Nice

These are heavy nunchucks, but after using hardwood nunchucks these are just a small step up from hardwood nunchucks. They also do not have as much give as hardwood nunchucks when you strike something with them. The only thing I dislike is when using them screwed together as one piece, the chain rattles a lot. But other than that they seem to do great, same fast speed and all.

Not as good as it seems

I was psyched about buying these, but they are really not as good as they seem. The aluminum shell is far to heavy and thick to make these anything but cumbersome, and the swivel and chain system is not quite as jerk-free as I thought it would be. You'd have to have a grip like a steel vise to handle them well. The chain also rattles annoyingly when you practice with them as batons. They will, however, get you more acclimated to using regular hardwood nunchaku.

Well, the weight and grip issue isn't as bad of a thing as you thing anon. yes, if your preforming on stage or for a demo there too hevy and clanky to be efficient and would be much better off with speed nunchucku. However, that weight and slipy grip will train your hands into vicegrips of steel and will make your strikes a lot stronger and more efficent. I'd say if your training with nunchucks just for play and show, go for something more simple and lighter. HOwever, If your like me, and you use these for SERIOUS delf defence...I'd say you couldn't ask for better. (p.s remember the legal status of nunchucku in your state!)
