Good Nunchucks

I just got them today. I ordered them and was given a message that said I'd get them in two weeks. But I got them 8 days early! And I got the cheapest shipping they offered too. I like when they over estimate the delivery time. But yeah, these are very nice nunchucks. But is there any kind of rubber padding I could buy for these nunchucks? I haven't really used them full force yet because I'm scared I'll knock myself out. If there is no padding for these chucks, then does anyone know where I could find some? Or if I could make some myself?

As far as I know Tony, there is not foam padding available for add-on to normal nunchaku. You may be able to construct your own with a little ingenuity though.

Your second option is to buy an inexpensive foam pair, like these: wp-nu-30. They are lighter than normal nunchaku, but good for beginner practice.

I recommend grabbing a foam pair in addition to a regular pair, they are inexpensive and can keep your cousin safe as he starts out: wp-nu-30.

That tends to be a matter of personal taste.

Adjust chain length

Is it possible to adjust or change the length of the chain, i.e., take out a link? I would like my chain to be about 3 to 3.5 inches.

You would have to be pretty handy with metal working Peter. You could definitely cut a piece of chain off with bolt cutters, open the two conjoining chain pieces and slide them together, and then solder those chains links shut.

OCTAGON OR ROUND????

what is better octagon or round????????

The difference between octagon and round is essentially one of taste. There is no real performance difference in regards to blocking, striking, or durability. It really depends on which feel you like better.

Although in combat applications; the octagons have multiple corner edges, which in a strike will make for cutting edges. Then in the other direction regular chucks are just blunt and solid...like mini baseball bats. Both will do significant damage but the octagons will add the cutting factor to it!

It would be tough to say one is better than the other. The differences are mostly in taste. The string is generally seen as more traditional, but the chain gained a lot of popularity once Bruce Lee decided to use it.

The string is generally a little quieter and smoother on the spin, and there are also repair kits available for string.

String is actually 0.5x faster than chain, because string has less resistence and string chakus traditionally were made smaller than those chains. To my opinion, string is better for carry and real fight, while chain is better for practise.

the string is weaker than the chain, so if ypu break them you need to repair twice as much than the chain.

I purchased this speed chucks for the size. It's concealable or more portable. I practiced on 12 inch chucks for a year and moved to these. The speed on these things are a huge increase. There are some new tricks I can do with these but also some new limits with shorter handles. I highly recommend these if you are planning on using them for self defense.
