After reading other reviews, I sanded the hollow where the cord goes in to prevent fraying. I was very pleased with them until I started practicing trapping techniques on a wooden target dummy. The hollow where the cord goes in cracked very quickly as the wood is thin there.  Permalink

I recently bought these for my boyfriend for Christmas. I have to say I know nothing about nunchucks, so I went by pictures of what he liked before buying them. The look on his face was priceless when he opened these and I have never seen him so happy before. Apparently, they are perfect and reminded him of when he was younger and learned from his father how to use them. Of nunchaku I mean. They are exactly what I expected and for me to say that is good. I usually have such high expectations that I am let down, not in this case. They obviously took the complaints about the sharp edges under advisement and started filing them down before they send them. I received mine rounded off and smooth where the cord comes out. The cord is a little long for my likes but that is an easily fixed problem. I chose them for the cord and the octagonal shape, great qualities.  Permalink

These Nunchucks are great quality, I cleaned up the top of the chucks where the string comes out with a round file and some sandpaper to prevent fraying of the rope and it looks and works fantastic.

The wood is oak with a great looking stain on them and I couldn't be happier, I even went to a military surplus store and bought some 550 paracord to insure that the rope would not break, it is rather easy to replace in my opinion and according to instructions on multiple sites you simply secure the ropes with a double knot after the threading process - I have not had any problems with these nunchucks, and I highly recommend training with this pair.  Permalink

As a 40 year veteran instructor - I know nun chucks. The nun chucks I urchased from Katate Depot are made of beautiful oak with a very nice stain, and offer excellant quality at a low price. Nun chucks come in all sizes. The wood nun chucks I purchased a a bit heavey - designed to do the most damage. Those who plan to use Stand Your Ground to defend themself with a gun - better think twice. If you ahve police traning - use a gun. But the rest of us need to learn about pepper spray, stun guns, and nun chucks. Karate depot will keep you out of jail. That is what karate is all about - self defense without going to jail.

On one of the chucks the wood is very rough on the inside where the cord is housed, and also has a sharp edge along the top. I have only used it for 1 hour and the cord is already starting to fall apart.  Permalink
