Product Description
If black is your color, these sais are for you. They are made of iron which is electroplated black. The handle is wrapped is leather for a better grip, even when your hands get slippery.

Maybe should have gone with chrome.

The plating chips off rather easily for me; just a light tap and a piece goes flying off. Kinda kills the aesthetic. 4 stars for practicality though.

    Great Sais

When I got these sais I was a little surprised by the weight but you get used to it quickly regardless of your strength. Well balanced, and packs a punch when making contact with something. I would recommend these for anyone starting sais, or even pros. These are also very durable. Unlike most lighter sais, these are the real deal if you know what I mean. They can handle a lot of abuse. I recommend Octagon to anyone, just because it's easier to control.

    Width of Tines

What is the distance from the center shaft to the tines for the 15" Sai?
Is that distance proportional to the length of the Sai (ie, do the longer Sai have a greater distance from the shaft to the tines)?

When you get to 18" and above the tines tend to be about 3" extended from the main striking surface. The 15" sai are a bit less than that, more on the 1.5" side.

    OCTAGON HANDLE?

The octagon sai I've seen are not round in the handle- they are octagon from tip to tip. Are these the same?

Great set of sai! The only thing I would note is that being an adult large, these are just a tad small to be comfortable for most spinning moves. My daughter (16) however seams to fit them fine and they would work for most people.

The quality is good! Not quite at the level of private metallurgy workshops where every sai is constructed by hand, but still good enough to tolerate training and form work.

    Black vs. Chrome Sais

Ordered a pair of black sais for Christmas...they were poorly packaged, however, and came chipped, unfortunately since they looked beautiful otherwise. Contacted Karate Depot who offered to swap them out for the chrome. They shipped the replacements in 2 days and they arrived on time for Christmas (thank you!) and were also lovely. They are weighty but it gives them the clout I think this weapon deserves. Glad I think to have the chrome in light of the chipping factor of the black, plus against a colored uniform, I think the chrome will show better. Just some thoughts for those debating one vs. the other!

    15 Inch Sai

Hi, I just ordered my 1st pair of Sais. I got the 15 inch ones. I am 5'7ish and about 135 lbs. I have smaller arms so I figured the 15 would be best. What do you guys think? I also ordered the Sai Case. I hope these will fit nicely in it. Thanks everyone.

If you have any problems with the size chondro just let us know - we can exchange it for a different size. They should run appx the length of your forearm when folded inward.

I suspect you will be pleased with the sai case.

    measure

hi .. the measure of the sai is done how? is complete or is only starting the trifurcation to the tip?

    thanks..

Hi gcrolo. When measuring a sai you take the whole length, from handle to tip. A great way to go about it is by holding someone else's sair folded inward, and seeing if the blade comes down to the tip of your elbow. If it covers your forearm, it is a good length. Too short or long from that point can be problematic.

Hi Bruce - as you browse sai you can assume they are sold in pairs unless explicitly stated otherwise. also, if you want to be sure, look next to the price in red at the top of the product page - you'll notice it says 'pair' or 'each' next to the price.

    What to choose

I have my first (Adult)Sai class in weapons in two weeks. 19.5 seems to be the right size not sure if I should choose octagon or round black or chrome? Do they weight the same?

The length is the most important factor, so it is good you have that squared away. The octagonal vs round issue is really a matter of taste as there is no discernal difference in performance. Some people think that the black sai show less wear and tear than chrome, although when you chip either it tends to show up.

    What size to get?

If my daughter is 5' 2", what size of these black Sais are best to get?

The most fool proof way to get a correct sai measurement is to go to your training facility and ask to see some pairs there. Have your daughter hold the sai with the blade edge pointing down toward her elbow. The point of the sai should be just about at her elbow. Once you find the sai that fits that criteria, you can ask what the size is or measure it yourself.

Great Sai, I have purchased several of these and the Chrome Sai as well, both for personal use and for other people in my program. No real downsides once you can get over the weight. 4 and 1/2 stars ****-

These Sais are excellent for someone who can handle weight, maintaining speed. Twirls precisely, and their density caused immaculate control. Recommended.

    practitioner of juijitsu/tang soo do/ninjitsu/kendo/judo/kung fu/others

Good for practice and a good beginners weapon. The weight is a little hard to get used to but otherwise well balanced. They look excellent in contest. 3.5 stars only because I've got some really nice hand crafted and obviously nicer and I am kinda spoiled by using them regularly.
